Second movie will apparently premiere next week. Not sure if CR will release it during the weekends though.

Edit: not sure if it will premiere this week or not on CR.

I watched the first 4 parts of movie 1 and I'm wondering if there is extra content in the TV anime? Or is it literally the same thing?

The second movie is up today. 4 episodes (20 minutes each) so roughly the same length as the first movie.

Pretty sure this one adapts episodes 5-8 (those will begin to air next month on TV)

I watched the first episode, and I must say I really did not like being dropped into the middle of an attack plan without any prior character introduction or buildup. Probably won't bother with the rest.

Now see, I loved that. It's exactly what made me think this might be good.

Did anyone else play the game? If you've played the game, this is pretty entertaining, and cathartic for those of us who got cut off of chain chronicle after they stopped supporting the global users.

And if you didn't play the game, you should just enjoy it, sheesh. All the other anime trash out there and people complain about chain chronicle? People can't take having a large cast and not having everything spelled out to them.

Only real complaints I have are not enough Melchior.

Eh, it's more that I don't want to see an extremely generic show that "borrows" elements from pretty much every fantasy property under the sun and yet does almost nothing new or interesting with them, while at the same time varying in visual quality depending on who's on screen while shoehorning in blatant game mechanics so the the players feel at home.

Given that you're not a fan Chain Chronicle as game it's surprising you're still hanging around this thread months later, trying to find petty reasons to attack the anime. Like I said before, this is a show created for the fans, in what is already one of the most successful mobile RPGs that Japan has ever seen. Chain Chronicle the anime doesn’t have to prove itself; the show just as to remain true to the characters, art style and mechanics already established in the game. To that end Chain Chronicle is preforming admirable as an anime, with its high quality visuals and keen attention to detail.

I checked in on the thread once I saw it had been bumped to the first page to see if commentary about the second movie had positive things to say that may have convinced me to view it. As I've said before and as you would have noticed if you actually paid attention to or cared what others write, I didn't hate the first movie but didn't see any real compelling reason to keep up with the series unless there were improvements. I found basically no discussion about the new movie and instead found a post basically attacking those who didn't like the series as somehow not understanding or appreciating it because it was somehow just too much for them to wrap their head around. I rebutted that comment.

If you want to interpret that as "hanging around for months" then fine. I give up.

You claim that you don't hate Chain Chronicle yet you are consistently one of its harshest critics on Crunchyroll. People with only a passing interest don't keep coming back to attack an anime again and again. I'm sure I'll see you again when movie three is released, if not before.

Coming from the perspective of someone that didn't even hear of the game until after seeing the anime I think so far it's entertaining at least. It's not something I would call great and it's basically textbook fantasy anime but still kept me watching and looking forward to the 3rd movie.

Playing the game clearly would enhance my enjoyment but because it's by the book nature it wasn't too hard to piece things together despite being dropped in the middle of things.

My gripes so far is that it felt like it would've been better off being a 26 episode anime instead of trying to cram everything into basically 12 episodes. Important plot points feel rushed because of it and don't get the proper time to build up like you feel it should.

And it feels like they are trying to push Aram to the role of main protagonist but he's just not that compelling of a character for that role. It's not like this is coming from some attachment to Yuri or anything since I've never played the game but they made Yuri the more compelling character and the guy you want to root for with Aram just feeling like a sidekick. Aram is Robin to Yuri's Batman and it feels like they are casting aside Batman to focus on Robin. Have to wait until movie 3 to come out to see how that all plays out I suppose.

The movie version has a higher rendering and resolution and spliced into digestible 20~min segments in 3-4 episode bursts for each movie. Whereas the tv version the colors and sounds may appear, for lack of a better term, mute. (More money is generally dumped into theatrical releases which often leads to a higher quality visually). Tv version episodes have a different opening theme and is only slightly longer because they're bookended with an outro and credit reel for each episode. Story wise they are pound for pound identical. It's only mechanically that they differ as much as they do.

Just watched the second movie. I liked it. Introduction of many characters who had a brief (but important) role didn't bother me at all, though I felt displaying their name and such when they appeared was awkward and not necessary. It's nice to look at, I like the characters, it's done well with its presentation of a darkish plot, and I find the story reasonably compelling. The latter part of movie one had me skeptical about movie 2, but having completed movie 2, I'm looking forward to movie 3.

(Also, I think it's working well with the 3-movie (12 episode) length. It's keeping my interest well at current pace, but I'm not sure it could keep my interest if extended to double that length.

Here is a feedback from someone who has played the game (Japan Server) up-to-date.

Absolutely love the animation, characters and action in the anime. I appreciate that the producers decided to cut out on each of the character introduction (it would probably caused them unnecessary costs) and went into the main plot. I especially like how the anime displays the game mechanics, showcasing the characters' skills (active and buffer) accurately, enhancing the action appeal for me.

Indeed, it would be thoroughly confusing for viewers who have not played the game due to the massive cast debut. My suggestion is to enjoy what the anime has to offer (especially the dark theme plot and action). However, if you still cannot enjoy it due to insufficient characters background information, I understand as well because characters are like the "foundation" of an anime.
It is safe to just "keep watch" on the character development in the Volunteer Army (especially Aram).

My only dislike is that there is no plans on animating the Chain Stories ^^ll But at least Musica, Lilith and Teresa will be having their debut.

Very much looking forward to the third release.

Extra/Omake :
- Half of me wanted Yuuri's name to be Tsukamu-kun in the anime (Hikari wo tsukamu joke)

- Chain Chronicle (Japan server) android game will be collaborating with KonoSuba around next month.
