Just as the title and description says, feel free to discuss anything to do with the Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 anime series. You can also discuss the Conqueror of Shamballa movie here if you wish. This discussion thread is ONLY for the 2003 anime and the COS movie. Do not discuss Brotherhood or Sacred Star of Milos here.

You can also ask questions, talk about things regarding the 2003 anime and its movie, etc.

Happy posting!

So, any fans still around? Hopefully I'm not the only one still enjoying the anime!

I finished rewatching the 2003 anime series (Japanese dub) a few months ago and it was great seeing it again. Has anyone else revisited this great anime recently as well?

I like them both but to be honest I liked the originals ending more then brotherhoods. The original felt way more impactful to me personally.

The anime itself is still great and I will always love it. Brotherhood's ending (which matches the manga's ending for the most part) and was more satisfying. But yeah, I love both anime series equally. I'm not going to favour one above the other or say one is bad or whatever. Both have flaws and both have pros and cons. I'm happy with both.

This is the last time I'll be discussing Brotherhood in this thread because this thread is for the 2003 anime only. If you're looking for Brotherhood, it's here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-976739/fullmetal-alchemist-brotherhood-discussion-thread

ANYWAY.......

Which dub did you watch first in the 2003 anime? I think I saw the English dub first for a few episodes or so when I first saw it on Adult Swim between 2006 - 2007. I finally saw the Japanese dub later online and bought the DVD season sets and I've enjoyed both the English and Japanese dubs equally. Romi Paku is one of the best female Japanese voice actors (Rie Kugimiya being 2nd place). <3

Rather then explain why I liked the 2003's ending more here is a review that pretty much hits the nail on the head. It has to do more with the fact that 2003's world was colder and more real to me then brotherhoods was.

I think the first time I watched FMA was also on its air in 2006... But then again I started watching subbed anime online a couple years before then so it may of been the original Japanese production.

So having watched this show and buying Funimation's amazing premium set of this that came out last year, this show is simply something everybody must watch. That said, while it is far inferior to Brotherhood as this show goes into anime-original material halfway through as it was produced while Hiromu Arakawa was in the middle of the release, the filler is quite a creative use of the situation there. To make the homonculi as souls of those who were foolish enough to attempt human transmutation is a nice way to make something out of this situation.

In any case, FMA is something everybody must watch, and while Brotherhood is superior in just about every way, this one does an excellent job in explaining things into more detail leading up to the end of the canonical material. The ending is bittersweet, and the Conqueror of Shamballa wasn't exactly up to standards with the rest of the series, but it's still worth watching.
