The Black Clover stage event at Jump Festa announced on Sunday that Yūki Tabata's Black Clover manga is getting a television anime series by Studio Pierrot.

Ryotaro Okiayu hosted the event with Tabata and idol Honoka Akimoto (a Black Clover fan) as guests. The combined second and third 2017 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine had teased on Monday that the manga would have a "super important announcement" at the stage event.

I'll happily take my chances with it. The manga is nothing that's gonna set the world on fire, but with 2 down out of the big 3 and Dragonball Super being... Just... awful, I could can go for a new long running shonen anime.

What's TSE? I can't think of what else it might be other than The Spoony Experiment, and I don't see how they could make something that's already dead. (Oooooooh, the burns)

Edit: Okay so apparently I forgot Twin Star Exprcists was a thing (really though, can you blame me?) but I wouldn't be too worried.

TSE was serialized in Jump Square, which as I recall is currently Sheisha's least popular Jump magazine. Black Clover is a prominent new addition to the Weekly Shonen Jump lineup. With that in mind, we're probably going to see something that's close to being on par with Naruto's anime, which was handled pretty damn well. They wouldn't be my first choice to direct a long running shonen jump adaptation, but they're definitely second or third.

Twin star exorcist

I think Pierrot did an ok job with it, but they changed the story so much for it to fit 50 episode and changed so many characters that the anime story is almost 100% original now.

Hmm.... Studio Pierrot.

With all that filler work in Naruto and what they did with TSE, I'm pretty hesitant about this one.

Even though Pierrot has made plenty of choices to get people to hate them, and not without justification, they have given us some really great moments in anime. The most important fights in Naruto and Bleach were handled perfectly, even better than some of the bigger fights in One Piece imo. Their work with YuYu Hakusho was brilliant, they even fixed all of the problems that the series had in the final arc of the manga.

Sure, their adaptation of popular works like Tokyo Ghoul have been a huge disappointment (Twin Star wasn't that popular to begin with judging by what I've seen) and they put way too many fillers in their shows but they can do something great if they work hard enough like they did with Osomatsu-san, YuYu Hakusho and Yona of the Dawn. If they handle Black Clover as well as they handled Naruto and Bleach whenever they adapted the manga for both series, I'll be happy and excited to check it out.

Okay, I just watched the event anime's PV and I'm a bit less optimistic now. The demon's obvious CGI is painful just from the few seconds of it you see, very little is actually ever shown off and something about the way they make Asta and Yuno speak in unison is just offputting. My least favourite part is the music. Black Clover has a very obvious Irish folklore influence, from its grimoire concept, to it's unique minsters, to its lamndscape to just the whole clover thing. However the music at the start of the pv seems to have a much more indian influence than anything else and then it just goes to generic anime music. It's not unsalvageable though. The faces are all just as expressive as they are in the manga and the grimoires seem to be much more differientiable than in the manga, which is a very good touch.

Thankfully this is produced by XEBEC so hopefully Pierrot's veesion will be better.

I have nothing but faith that Pierrot will treat it well.

God, I'm pretty excited for this adaptation. As someone who's caught up on the manga, I cannot wait. Let's be thankful Toei Animation doesn't have their hands on it. Let's be real, Pierrot>Toei.

From the look of things, it doesn't look like something I would want to bother with, especially with Twin Star Exorcists turning out to be a fillerfest. But I won't know for sure until I check it out.

Was the filler in that show really that bad? I stopped watching at the filler arc with the little girl but I thought that one was alright (I mostly stopped watching because of time restrictions) granted, I wasn't huge on the rest of the show, so that may be part of it.
