I image they are implementing a 3rd party video player which is refusing to bugfix for a specific 7.0 build since 7.1 is out.

I just got the proper 7.0 release for my OnePlus 3, and video is working fine in the Crunchyroll app. This makes it look like certain makers are breaking things in Google's code in their 7.0 (beta) versions. At least for the Samsungs there is hope that it will work once their 7.0 is out of beta.

So, using your beta feedback to report to Samsung that the 7.0 beta is breaking playback in our app is probably a wise choice.

Interestingly the ADs do work, just not the crunchyroll content...
I'm on a 7.0 Device (Xperia XZ) as well.

/Edit: I don't see why Android 7.0 would be called beta? It's an official release

Because they're talking about a Samsung device and Samsung is just today starting to officially update devices. I'm also doubting there has been any significant fixes to their Android release since the beta that fixes it. We'll probably see a few more posts once more people take the update.

I just recently got a LG V20 running 7.0. I also have an old LG G-Pad 8.3 tablet running CyanogenMod 14.1. On both the app works fine. I think this is a combination of something in the app itself and OEM vendor specific issue. The V20 and Xperia XZ have very similar hardware.

I'm a fan of Android but this is what drives smaller developers nuts. Anyone with the issue able to get a proper logcat?

Back after a while...

It seems that at least on my case the problem very likely lies in the OS (7.0) itself just like you suspected as none of the streaming services work on my phone. Therefore I'll be off your back and wish you people the very best new year.

What other streaming service doesn't work? Dramafever, Netflix works for me.

Anyone here who received the proper non-beta 7.0 from Samsung yet? Is the app malfunctioning on that still?

So this article might be relevant for people on Sony Xperia devices:

http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/757738/Android-Nougat-7-0-update-HALTED-Samsung-S7-Sony-Xperia-issues

The most relevant part:

Sony has also halted the launch of this new OS on its Xperia range after a number of users reported problems.

In a statement the Japanese tech firm said: "We were made aware of reports from some users experiencing inconsistencies related to audio playback via third-party apps and SD card encrypted data read performance, after upgrading to Android 7.0, Nougat.

"We’ve identified the root cause and are aiming to provide corrective firmware and re-commence the rollout as soon as possible.”

Sony was updating its range of Xperia Z5, Xperia Z3+, and Xperia Z4 Tablets when the problems appeared.

I did contact Sony support on January 3rd to inform them about the issue, so maybe the Crunchyroll playback issue is among the other user reported problems.
And if not, at least there are some other playback-related issues via third-party apps. Maybe Sony fixing those will fix Crunchyroll as well :P

I guess all we can do for now is wait.

Also, I'd be interested to see if the Z5-generation(and earlier) of xperia devices will experience the same issue when Nougat/7 is rolled out for those devices as well.

EDIT: (couldn't get the url tag to work, so i separated the link and so forth)

Particularly the audio part sounds like that could be it. It probably crashes, shutting down playback in general.

Tell the maker that it does not work properly. It's likely that they have the same issues are Samsung or Sony. (That's the whole point of distributing beta software, they want user feedback.)

Received an update for mye Xperia X Performance a day or two ago.

Streaming CR is still not working, but it seems to have been a minor update from Sony's part, considering it's still 7.0
Anyways, I've read that Sony's Concept (it's really just what they call their beta program, as far as i can tell), has had 7.1 available since at least early January.
I guess that means 7.1 will make its way to a 'Stable' release sometime in the near future.

As a side note, I've been growing impatient, so I decided that I might as well try out Concept (beta), since Sony's stable release is already broken (in terms of streaming CR). It turns out that in order to join their Concept program, you have to Install 'Concept Installer', an app which isn't compatible with my device. I can't confirm it, but I suspect the app is only available for Marshmallow (6.x) Android.
I would downgrade in order to install Concept (in other words I would take this path: 7.0 (Stable) -> 6.x (Old Stable) -> 7.1.1 (Concept/Beta)), but Sony does not provide any official way to revert back to Marshmallow.

In summary: I can't downgrade my device, I can't join their beta program, and I don't want to root my device. All I can really do is to continue waiting.

I'm curious though, has anyone gotten 7.1 on their Xperia yet (either as beta or stable release), and does streaming work for you?
Also, is anyone with a 7.0 Xperia able to join Concept (is the 'Concept Installer'-app listed as compatible with your device? (Official Sony thread on Concept: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Sony-s-Concept-for-Android/Sony-s-Concept-for-Android-Frequently-Asked-Questions/td-p/1158482 if you're able to, and want to actually join their beta program, do so at your own risk)

Well, here I am on my galaxy s7 edge, last beta version of 7.0, waiting for stable release from carrier, and same issue as op. No possible work arounds to stream from the app? Mobile browsers with flash player on don't work either :/. Maybe the version is out of date.
