Received an update for mye Xperia X Performance a day or two ago.

Streaming CR is still not working, but it seems to have been a minor update from Sony's part, considering it's still 7.0
Anyways, I've read that Sony's Concept (it's really just what they call their beta program, as far as i can tell), has had 7.1 available since at least early January.
I guess that means 7.1 will make its way to a 'Stable' release sometime in the near future.

As a side note, I've been growing impatient, so I decided that I might as well try out Concept (beta), since Sony's stable release is already broken (in terms of streaming CR). It turns out that in order to join their Concept program, you have to Install 'Concept Installer', an app which isn't compatible with my device. I can't confirm it, but I suspect the app is only available for Marshmallow (6.x) Android.
I would downgrade in order to install Concept (in other words I would take this path: 7.0 (Stable) -> 6.x (Old Stable) -> 7.1.1 (Concept/Beta)), but Sony does not provide any official way to revert back to Marshmallow.

In summary: I can't downgrade my device, I can't join their beta program, and I don't want to root my device. All I can really do is to continue waiting.

I'm curious though, has anyone gotten 7.1 on their Xperia yet (either as beta or stable release), and does streaming work for you?
Also, is anyone with a 7.0 Xperia able to join Concept (is the 'Concept Installer'-app listed as compatible with your device? (Official Sony thread on Concept: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Sony-s-Concept-for-Android/Sony-s-Concept-for-Android-Frequently-Asked-Questions/td-p/1158482 if you're able to, and want to actually join their beta program, do so at your own risk)

The Xperia Concept firmwares are for selected devices (Xperia X at this time, before that was Z3) and only for certain regions. It is Sony testing the latest android with some Sony features added.

You're right, it's for some reason available for only one very specific model, not the entire Xperia X generation. My bad.

Well atm it seems like there is pretty much nothing I can do without rooting.

We can use this for now
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-881505/unofficial-hd-streaming-app-premium-only

It doesn't have any playback controls though

Or we can use Puffin browser app and watch it via the website.

Well, technically that's a workaround, but at that point I feel it's less work for me to just pull out my laptop.
Sorry, I don't mean to sound salty, I'm just frustrated about my current situation (and the fact that it's not just me).

I guess it's still useful advice for anyone who only has their phone.

Or used in a place where they don't have their computer with them.

AT&T pushed 7.0 today on my S7 Edge and it's definitely still broken on the release version.

it seems many carriers including Samsung are pushing a final release of 7.0, rather than 7.1. ergo no fix.

I really don't think this will take long to fix. think of the play store reviews after people get their updates to broken 7.0...

Well, I gotta say this is super frustrating. You can add the Nvidia Shield K1 tablet to the list of devices that won't stream CR on Nougat. Got the update last week while I was taking a breather from the site. To add insult to injury, I decided to pull the trigger on a yearly subscription… tested it on my PC (Win 10 with the CR app, works great) and didn't bother to check any other devices…

Now here's the really weird part. I am 99.999% certain that I was able to watch TWO episodes of a show back-to-back with the app just a few days ago on the Shield tablet, right after that yearly sub went through! Then tonight it hasn't worked at all. So I dunno what to think about this. I've done the uninstall/reinstall game several times, restarted, cleared all the caches, etc. Nada.

At first I thought it was the usual capacity/growth issues that CR has been experiencing, but I was trying to watch at 3 am local time in the US, it's never crapped out before. I just can't figure out how it worked a few days ago and now it doesn't.

Just out of curiosity, is your Shield on 7.0 or 7.1?

It's 7.0. Allegedly, 7.1 is in the pipeline, though.

Update: Turns out, another app I use pretty regularly has also quit working, and the stock launcher has gotten really buggy. On suggestion of a support tech for my weather radar app, I did a factory reset. So far, Crunchyroll is now working again on my Shield. Go figure. We'll see if it craps out again at some point.

If you are located in the US, you can circumvent this issue by using our VRV Android app. All you have to do is install that, then link your Crunchyroll account to your VRV account on the VRV website. That way you can watch Crunchyroll content through the VRV app instead.

I can confirm this is still an issue on the 7.0 update Samsung pushed out to T-Mobile S7s. The video does not play and will show 0.00.00 on the video playback controls.

Hope a fix can be made soon as the update gets pushed out to more people.

Anyone know if watching it via VRV will still count towards T-Mobile's Binge On feature that doesn't count Crunchyroll towards data use?
