How did Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress make it to this list? lol...

Anyway, Mob Psycho 100 and Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju looks to be AOTY imo. I'd vote for both.

So... Looks like the nominators only watched a handful of shows this year.

I'm just going to start this with I actually like award things. I know they're pointless but there's just something about getting together with fans to make sure your favourites win. I'm saying this as someone who wants this to succeed, knowing it's far too late to change anything this year.

For the nominations it would have been nice to have some more variety. Erased, Kabaneri, Mob, My Hero Academia, and Yuri on Ice are collectively in almost everything with "Best comedy" being the only category without 1 of them and most have 2 or 3. They're all popular, and I'm not saying they don't deserve to be nominated as much as they were, but where are ReLIFE, Haikyu, Sound Euphonium, Izetta, Love Live, etc. Stuff like Keijo!!!!!!!!, JoJo's, Sakamoto, and Konosuba were also popular and got one nomination each.

There's also a number of spoilers for ERASED and Yuri on Ice, the entire villain category is weird (ERASED- spoiler, JoJo- Good, Kabaneri- Doesn't everyone say the show went downhill when he was introduced? MHA- showed up in like 2 episodes), (ERASED)
, I haven't seen anyone consider Joker Game as better than most the shows I listed earlier yet it's for AOTY while they aren't, OP and ED closing have almost the exact same line-up aside from Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju in OP and Luluco in ED closing while missing on some really popular ones (Lay Your Hands on me?), all the "best couples" are spoilers.

Again I want this to succeed, I like these things. Maybe next year set-up a Google Doc for people to leave suggestions or look through the nominations for the season awards in the forums and see what got the most nominations as a lot of the categories overlap. This is the first year so obviously it won't be perfect but that's why I'm providing criticism in hopes this thing can become something we can all be proud to vote in.

What a garbage selection. With all those "judges" I would expect a wide variety of choices, but instead we get the same 4 shows in almost every category.

I was thinking the same thing. Sweetness and Lightning is what I think of first with "Heartwarming". Also, where's Bungo Stray Dogs? It should have at least made one category be it fight scene or op/ed. Or Haikyu? Hinata for best boy! Why on earth is luluco in there so many times? I do like the idea of awards but I think this needs to be expanded from 4 per category. Right now, I feel like you're choosing who I should vote for by not even including at lot of shows. That already happened with the election this year. We all know how that went. At the very least, have a write-in vote.

Who are these so called "independent panel of industry experts" if I may ask? Pardon me, since I do not want to insult anyone, but they don't seem like good judges. We got mostly just the same shows competing for the same categories, and while some might argue "it's because they are good series," I am very disappointed that a lot of the nominees are just repeats. This does not even feel like an actual award ceremony. Oh wait! That's how many awards do things right? They choose the 'artsy' or whatever you call that, and nominate it again and again. I actually got excited to see there were holding some sort of anime awards but this is beyond disappointing.

Also as others have mentioned, some nominees are not here. Since you guys are holding these awards it means that they will already be part of the catalog before the voting starts, right? I mean, the people that planed the awards where not as dimwitted as to include things that where not going to be part of the awards before the awards, right?

I think this is fine, but a few more choices in some categories and more judges (especially judges who watch A LOT and come from diverse backgrounds) would be fantastic for next year! I think anime having an awards show in the English-speaking world is pretty cool though.

I can't vote. I don't want to spam my fb, and don't have access to my twitter on account I haven't used it in years and have a new email now/ have moved.
Not that the selection is that good for the nominations. So meh.

Imo, this was clearing not chosen by a "Independent panel of industry experts" and whoever the most likely singular person was that decided on the nominees created this clearly have their favorites this year, i see that. Literally the same 5 anime everywhere in these nominations.

At least one of the judges nominated Sweetness and Lightning (for two of the categories), but it was not selected. That's sad. It's such a great show.

Why are y'all relying on the same half dozen shows for every category? They are so many more deserving shows, but only the most popular got chosen. This reeks more so about marketing rather than actually recognising and congratulating great anime.
