Like many others, at first this seemed like a fun idea, but the fact that there's no diversity and the same anime are used over and over was a pretty big let down (and I say this really liking a number of them). I get that it is essentially a popularity contest and thus popular shows were nominated, but it's not like those were the only popular shows available to choose from. Was planning to participate, but in the end I think I'll pass. Hope others end up enjoying it, though, and maybe if this happens again next year the voting selection will be a bit more varied.

Went to vote for One Piece or Dragon Ball Super, couldn't because neither were nominated by the "esteemed" judges. Not even in the "Fight" category.

I wanted to check out the nominated fight scenes, but the MHA and Kabaneri 'view scene' links lead to the region locked Funimation and Amazon pages, even though every other nominee in the 'fight' and 'heartwarming' category has a youtube clip of the scene in question linked. In other words, if you're outside the US/CA/UK (or just unwilling to pay for Prime), you can't even watch the nominated scenes (Kabaneri's OP/ED is the same deal). Honestly, if Crunchyroll is legally unable to use clips of those shows, I think they should have been excluded from categories that reference specific clips - fight, heartwarming, OP and ED.

So like most people, I'm disappointed with these nominees.

Best Drama without Orange or 91 Days?
Best Action without MSG: Iron Blooded Orphans or Bungo Stray Dogs?
Best Fighting without Bungo Stray Dogs?
Best comedy without Cute High Earth Defense Club or Nanbaka or Please Tell me Galko-chan or Sekko Boys?

Also season 2 of Gate could have been nominated for several categories.

I agree with the nominations for Showa but most of the stuff I actually liked this year is absent from the nominations.

Maybe next time you can do an actual fan vote with write in nominees besides the panel vote?
And maybe take in some of the region restrictions. (Like a Europe's most popular; N.A. most popular; S.A. most popular etc.) Because no matter how long this holiday is, it will never allow me to watch the stuff that hasn't been released in my region.

I'll probably vote though only for categories that actually have a candidate I can get behind. I think the CR award is a great idea, just not loving the way it's set up right now...

Holy shit these nominations are bad. Seems the team only watched 4 of the meme shows. Great.

meh cant vote on half of these since i wouldn't have chosen most of them for the best in the areas mentioned.

and half of these aren't on crunchy roll (even if i have watched them) i am unsure why they are included.

The "industry experts" that populated the list seem to have very narrow taste. This is really disappointing. I hope more effort is put into next year's, if this idea isn't wholesale abandoned after it bombs.

Well I was going to say clearly Rem wins Best Girl in a landslide considering the other choices, but someone has beaten me to the punch. As much as I dislike making a "why is X show not here? Why is X show here" argument, some of the nominations and snubs seem somewhat questionable. Others have mentioned the abundance of certain shows in the categories so I won't. But Sound Euphonium 2 not even nominated for Best Animation? How? Certainly not as flashy as some of the other nominees but their consistent high level of quality of the animation is easily the best. At least for that category my vote will be for none of the above.

Overall, I'll vote where I feel there is a choice I can vote for, but I don't know how meaningful I will find the results especially as compared to other sites where the voters are the ones who make the nominations and we can really see how every show fares. It seems I am not the only one dissatisfied with our choices.

For what it's worth, I wish you guys the best of luck in this venture.

Yes, read my mind. I mean, as bubblyhunter said, it didn't even seem like these judges watched more than 4 shows a season. It's not even so much the popular shows were the only ones on there, they just completely overlooked certain shows/genres, like Jojo, ReLife, and Euphonium which are very popular. Re:Zero was the most popular show of the year and it only got two noms... not even one in drama.... but Kabaneri? A train wreck of a show, gets 9 nominations, like are you fucking kidding me???

Well one the judges say they recommend a lot of tittles but a lot of his recommendations got rejected. I think Glass reflection say that on twitter.

I see, that makes sense.

I saw a conversation that a friend of mine had with a higher up (Nate Ming) on Twitter and he said that the noms were given to shows that had the highest views mainly. Direct quote: "shows that people actually watched"... pretty crappy way to set up awards.

I like the the folks at Crunchyroll, but I'm pretty disappointed that they set up the awards in such a lame way. They didn't give all shows equal opportunity to compete it seems.

Your underestimating the Rem fanboys and gals!

Maybe but I have never seen an anime trend on more social media than yuri on ice. Its top trending on twitter, facebook, and even iTunes (non-japanese).

I only watched two shows this year, and one of them got no nominations... the other one got nominations but not for the things I would want to vote for (I would vote for Yuri Plisetsky for Best Boy but not Yuri Katsuki).

So.... eh.

Well it is based on voting. If you're going to have a ton of people vote out of five nominees, you're going to have to cut good stuff in favor of popular stuff...

It is a bad way to set up awards, but to say I'm "disappointed" would be to say I'd expect more from Crunchyroll, and... I don't want to sound like one of those nasty cynical internet people, but...
