Why is Kabanari being pushed so hard? I can see things for animation/best girl stuff. But otherwise, its about as average as they come. Hell, its not even a controversial statement to say that.

And to see something like flip flappers getting the shaft super hard (Especially the fact that its not even considered for best ED.) makes me wonder if theirs some high level shenanigans a foot.

Seriously, I can't wrap my head around the amount of Kabanari. I didn't even like Erased or RE:Zero and even I'm absolutely perplexed how crunchyroll seems to view it as better then either of those.

My Vote:

My Thought's now that the voting has been Tallied:

Has anyone gone to https://theanimeawards.com/ and looked at the vote graphs for the categories? The difference between YoI and second place seems far to large... I think quite a few YoI fans stuffed the voting box. (Compare the difference between first and second place in best comedy, and second and third place in the categories YoI won)

So as we all predicted YoI Robbed in every category it was nominated in:

It Didn't deserve Best Animation compared to Kabenari, Sound Euphonium, or Flip Flappers.
It Didn't deserve Most Heartwarming Scene Compared to Erased and Re:Zero.
It Didn't Deserve Best OP compared to Kiznaiver and Kabenari.
It Didn't Deserve Best ED compared to Flip Flappers.
And IT WILL NOT DESERVE ANIME OF THE YEAR, when compared to Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, Sound Euphonium!, Kabenari, Kiznaiver, Mob Psycho 100, etc...

Now, IF we had done the Anime Awards on the following years, the results would have been as follows:

2013: Love Live and Free Steal everything (Though being from Kyoto Ani, Free might deserve best animation)
2014: Same as 2013
2015: Haikyu steals everything, with some leftover LoveLive and Free... One Punch Man manages to Snag Best Action

Until anime stops pandering to certain fanbases, we shouldn't do awards like this... or at the very least we should have more critical judges do nominations, and only for:

Anime of the Year
Best Animation
Best Drama
Best Romance
Best Action
Best Comedy
Best Horror
Best Story/Script

And no "Other" Option

Another way we could do it is: the exact setup right now, but have critic's picks in each category as well

All in all, Fujoshi and LoveLive Fans, bleh!

There's an "Other" section when you do voting, you can Write-in "Flip Flappers" there. I also think they had the best ED

With a yaoi title out there who expects anything else to win?

Why don't we just rename this Yuri-Fest, because that's exactly what it's going to be.

In one word: Fan-girls.

Yes, fujoshi will be voting en masse and crowding out everyone else. The option to write-in - encouraged by the poor selection provided by the "panel of experts" - only ensures that the vote for better shows is split even further, leaving no one else competitive.

The Other option is a nice inclusion and shows that they did take notice of people's complaints on the lack of certain nominees.

That said, I'm still baffled at how Sound! Euphonium 2 didn't at least receive its own best animation nomination when it was right up there with Mob Psycho 100 in terms of fantastic animation this year. And then Yuri!!! on Ice somehow manages to get an best animation nomination when, to be frank, after the first episode YoI's animation was really nothing spectacular and 90% of it was rotoscoped and still crowd shots.

I cast my votes though I expect Yuri to dominate every category it was nominated for.

Yeah I can't believe Sound! Euphonium didn't get any nominations. And the animation was amazing.

Trying to vote in the 'Best Girl' category is making me realize that this was a pretty weak year for female characters in general. We had a great crop of male characters, but almost no female characters stood out to me, to the extent that I don't even know who to vote for as a write in candidate (and no, my favorites are not usually male). Aside from Rem (who is going to win the category in a landslide - no offense to their fans, but the competition is paltry, especially when compared to the level of the 'best boy' category) I can't think of any female characters being talked about much this year, even outside of the shows I was watching.

I really hope Region lock the animation will win in all categories. It's clearly a AOTY.
