Well, he had already constructed and tested the remote triggering system. So it was effectively ready to go soon as he hooked it up. Plus it sounds like he wanted to rig it with remote explosives just in case. So it would double as a dirty bomb.

As for practicality; It would have just silently killed anyone in range but a lethal dose of rads isn't an immediate or apparent death sentence to those being affected. You wouldn't even know something happened. It could be hours or even days before the first symptoms appear depending on the dose. But you would already effectively be dead. It'd just be a matter of time.

So, practically speaking you could hit a number of targets before authorities even began to catch on that attacks were taking place.

Kind of terrifying shit really.

I imagine it was more about intent than application. A stupid plan to kill someone is still a plan to kill someone.

It was functional enough for the judge to order the plans for it sealed from the court record lest anyone else get the same idea in their head.

I saw your post above mine. The idea does seem less stupid and more scary when lethal levels of radiation are involved.

Yeah. I think the tabloids perpetuating the "death ray" name kind of undercut the seriousness of it a bit.

Even the KKK thought he was crazy:

He enlisted the help of a KKK leader who was cooperating with investigators the entire time, court records say.

Yeah. They turned his ass in. "He ain't one of us! That guy's crazy!"

Did nobody learn from Japan's mistake during World War II? I mean a death ray? Instead of going after the nuke they went all anime on us and went for a fricking death ray. Unless your name is Dr. Evil then leave the Death Ray's alone.

On a side note I'm glad they caught this nut job. Killing others is wrong. Attempting to kill others is wrong. Violence is wrong. I don't care what your reasoning is and religion as well as National pride are two of the worst reasons to commit crimes. White power? There is no white anything. We're all one big mixture of god knows what. Maybe I could understand if there were some Neanderthal power groups out there because there truly are traces of Neanderthals left in us but I don't see anyone screaming for the return of the pure (uhm, what color would they be? Let's just go with hairy) Neanderthal race. They deserve a bit more pride than the mythological pure what male does. That particular creature if he even ever existed went extinct long ago.

There is no such thing as a white person. We are all people of color.

I also opened this because I was curious if he opened up a m********* and took out the s******* and fashioned something to focus.....ah, nevermind, the courts dont want people reading that, so for the good of all let's censor it

We never actually stopped fighting the confederacy I've come to realize. There is a large subset of our country that persists in clinging to awful/outmoded social and economic structures in spite of the fact that the world is changing and making them increasingly irrelevant. The fact that we keep having to go back and argue about things like whether or not climate change is real, and whether or not certain people should have full civil rights has, in conjunction with news media losing it's teeth and becoming nothing more than partisan shills, destroyed political discourse in this country. This is our entire problem in a nutshell, we still have people who proudly fly the confederate flag, we still have people pretending that answered questions are up for debate. We still pretend that some evangelical nutjob's opposition to marriage equality is worth sustaining. We keep pretending that shitty ideas are worth hearing about, when like the Confederacy itself, they should've been left to rot in the past where they belonged.

Think of it like this, I know you dislike Britain and us by extension, but I think this quote of Churchill's is salient: "You can always count on Americans to do the right thing-after they've tried everything else." This has been true for most of our history, every time the rest of the first world/global north decided that some policy or practice was stupid or awful, we have consistently been among the last ones to discard it. If anything that quote's proven to be overly optimistic, given our staunch insistence, particularly in recent days to do everything we can to avoid doing the right thing.

So want to post Gavin's 33 fun facts about slavery

The war against the confederate flag is stupid and bs.

As someone who has lived in America his entire life, I can safely say that the KKK has not done anything in the past 15 years that warrants the title: "rabid dogs." Other groups like BLM and ISIS have done much worse things in recent history. (BLM killing cops and causing riots, and ISIS is self-explanatory.) Certain members of the KKK have probably killed a couple black people but the group as a whole shouldn't be hunted down or arrested. As weird as this sounds, it isn't illegal to be racist. Freedom of speech grants you the right to be racist if you so choose. Compared to your country, I have heard through the grapevine that Canadians aren't even allowed to criticize religion. Now I don't know this for sure, but if that is true, then both the US and Canada are evil with freedom of speech in their own ways.

The distribution, publication, and speaking of hate related material is a federal crime in Canada, regardless of it's origins under Section 318 of the Criminal Code. So The KKK, BLM, and ISIS supporters would receive the same punishment if they developed into public hate of anything meant to incite. Public discussion of things like religion , and even matters related to the ideology of racist supremacy groups like the KKK and BLM are permitted as long as only the truth is spoken and a evident desire to do only goodwill with his or her statements.

And frankly I prefer it that way, there is much less grey area for those inclined to do hate to take advantage of.

I only wonder how much damage you Yanks are going to do before you figure out what the right thing is though.
