There are really only a handful of shows represented. The awards as a whole seem like they are extremely slanted towards only a few shows.

The Anime of the Year category I can't really complain about. This is an easy category to fill out based on what gets watched the most and has the most positive reviews.

The sub-categories need more though. It's almost all the same shows that are in the Anime of the Year award, and those shows are way too heavily represented in the lower tier awards.

The lower ranked awards should have some representation from the main category, but not take up the bulk of every other category either. I'm not saying remove every nominee from all the lower tiers, just don't fill them so heavily with the main category nominees.

Just to name a few examples, this year had: Tanaka-kun, Occult Nine, Long Riders, Sousei No Onmyoji, Days, Saiki.k, ReLife, Tales of Zestiria, New Game, Amanchu, Bankugo, Sansha Sanyo, Ushio to Tora, 91 Days, Haikyuu, and Grimgar.

While they might not on par with the AotY nominated shows as a whole, a lot of them outshine most of them in the areas the lower tier categories are focused on.

Would be nice if there was two or three film categories as well, comedy, drama, and best film of the year or something. Even just a 'Best Movie' category would have been nice.

Also, a category for short form anime, such as Teekyu, Mahou shoujou nante, Saiki.k, and Okusama ga Seitokaichou! would be fitting.

Plus, it's an absolute crime there's no sports/game anime category.

I know it's a first stab at this, but it's been simplified too much and just isn't diverse enough as it is currently. It's just boring and seems to be playing favorites too much due to a few shows being too heavily represented overall, and that's not only dull, but they don't all deserve the nods they are getting in the sub categories over other shows.

Break up the near monopoly the shows nominated for the big award have on the lower tier categories some. There are shows that do the little things better than the majority of them do, but just don't hold up as a whole as well. They should get some love as well in awards like this.

If this is the best your judges could do, you need new ones. These people seem like they've only watched the top ten shows of this year and have little to no knowledge of anything else that was released in that time.

I also feel I should point out that the villain nomination spoils Erased. It is a mystery anime and giving away the villain kind of ruins half the show. Maybe there should be a warning or something about that somewhere? Block out the image and name of the character with a spoiler filter with a warning that only reveals it if you click on it or something?

Back me up here if you think I'm right, and throw out some nominees for lesser categories while you're at it if you want.

At this point it's all just for marketing.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is a series that shouldn't be near some of these categories, but since Crunchyroll got the rights for merchandise and home video, of course they want to push that series as much as they could.

Yuri on Ice is another series Crunchyroll has been heavily promoting, so it isn't a surprise that it's in almost every category.

With the "judges" I feel like a majority of them barely watched anything from this year. Xavier Woods for example, not putting him under the bus, but do you know how busy a WWE superstars life is? I doubt he's watched over 5 series from this year. The only one I believe actually watched a decent amount of anime this year is GR - Arkada and most of his choices were push aside.

No 'write in' option is a mistake. The only category that I feel has 'decent' choices is comedy and two of those shows main genre isn't even comedy. Also why the hell is there only 4 choices for the OPs/EDs category? There only like a minute and a half long! Come on now you could of at least watched more of them.

It's sad that these 'anime awards' is more for marketing instead of showcasing what this year had to offered. Whatever, money is what makes this world spin I guess.

I won't participate and if these 'anime awards' were fan picked, the choices would be drastically different.

Maybe someone should make a Crunchyroll Forum's 2016 Anime Awards thread.

This was funny.

I mean, yeah, I agree one hundred percent that these awards were partially a sham to promote their stuff, and little to do with the quality of the show (cough, Kabaneri). Looks like they were avoiding ones that were grabbed by other companies, too, (i.e. where the hell is Satou from Ajin for best villain).

What are you talking about? Those 5 same shows in nearly every category are clearly representative of the 200+ shows that aired in 2016! In fact, let's all vote Kabaneri for everything since that was obviously the only important show that aired this year. These judges did a great job choosing the only 5 shows they watched the entire year.

I'm quite sure nothing this year came even remotely close to how great Tales of Zestiria was animated. There are numerous titles that just seem to be in there because they aired recently. In the case of ERASED, I still can't get over the scotch-taped ending they decided to go with. Pretty clear this is limited to CR shows though, I'd have thought with the way they were collaborating with Funi recently they would team up to do something special in regards to awards. Hifumi can't win best girl so I'm upset.

Best boy instead of best guy? Closing instead of EDs? Sure I can understand the bias in selecting the preferred anime by the staff, but really? Is CR being run by normies to not even get the terminology right?

I strongly suggest they add an "Other:" option for the audience to select their preferred anime for each category. It feels like we're forced to choose from their nominated choices instead of making our own choice. A few anime that didn't get nominated for best anime for example, Konosuba, Haikyuu 2nd/3rd seasons, Jojo's, etc. If they want this event and awards to truly be what they're hoping it to be, they should given provide full decision on their audiences.

My Hero Academia is there like a hundred times and it's a Funi show. Other than that, Kabaneri is the only one that wasn't on CR but CR now has Blu-Ray and DVD.

Nothing against Yuri!!! On ice (I'm one of the biggest Yuri on ice freaks out there) but it looks to me that the only anime the whole team has watched is Yuri!!! On ice T_T and of course Yoi will win in almost every category because
1- it's nominated in almost every category!!
2- the other competitors are really weak...

Really?! SatoruxKayo as best couple??! The were not together as kids and they come together with other people!!!
And best girl only Rem as option?!! I'm team Emilia!!

You can't do this crunchyroll!
