Well....I mean, what do you want? The shows that are up for anime of the year are the series that most people into anime were talking about pretty much. I really want to see Kabernari though....

I mean I loved Showa Genroku Rakugo and Token Ranbu Hanamaru, but I ain't complaining because those shows didn't get hype...though Rakugo deserves it and TRH was, though a good series, problematic

This was addressed in the first post. I don't personally think all the shows nominated deserve an AotY nod, but I'm okay with what they chose because there will always be disagreement in a category like that, shows people think should have gotten a nod that didn't.

The issue is that these same anime make up the bulk of every other category. It's heavy handed and other shows that didn't make the AotY award should be better represented in the other categories.

It's boring the way it is now, and obviously favoritism geared towards marketing rather than a real attempt at honoring excellence. It's heavy handed and dull, so it's hard to take these awards remotely seriously.

I know there will be some element of that in an awards thing like this, but they've overdone it and pushed their thumb on the scales a little too much. It seems like the judges that chose the shows don't watch much anime at all, and only selected the few shows they actually watched. The nominees in the AotY category are vastly over represented everywhere else and it makes the whole thing seem like something of a sham and less legitimate as a result.

It's kind of insulting to our intelligence to be honest. This could have been done a lot better and still retain the marketing angle they were going for. They over did it and blew it, so now it's become something of a joke that few are taking seriously. There was always going to be haters and fanboys salty about it, but it's worse than it might have been if they'd made a real attempt at getting it right.

We all know Rem won already. The other categories and shows are simple formality. On a serious note, I think Satoru and Kayo is a fair "couple". I can't understand why a few people have denounced them. Also, I'm rather disappointed that 91 Days didn't make it into any categories. I really enjoyed that one. Just make do with the choices you have and vote if you feel like it; that's life.

Yes my feelings entirely. What a sham!

WHere is Flip Flappers, Sound Euphonium, Haikyu!!, Shokugeki, ReLife, Re:Zero, Orange, Tales of Zetheria, Aldermin of the Sky, 91 Days, Sweetness and Lightning, etc, etc , etc!!!!!!

Sheesh what a bunch of lazy ass administrators we are paying monthly. It is truly disturbing.

From what I can tell the Seasonal Anime Awards that Swaggercandy hosts looks to be a lot of effort. Hosting a full year version of that would be nuts. We do have those fun annual Best Show and Best Characters tournaments.

While I do wish that there were more choices, these would be my picks from the available options:

Anime of the Year: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
Hero of the Year: Izuku "Deku" Midoriya
Villain of the Year: Yoshikage Kira - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Best Boy: Yakumo/Kikuhiko - Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
Best Girl: Rem - Re:Zero
Best Fight Scene: Deku vs Kacchan - My Hero Academia
Best Animation: Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
Most Heartwarming Scene: Kayo's First Homecooked Meal - Erased
Drama of the Year: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
Best Couple: Yuri & Victor - Yuri!!! on Ice
Best Comedy: Konosuba
Best Action: My Hero Academia
Best Opening: Yuri!!! on Ice
Best Ending: ?

The colored four are what I would still pick if I could choose any shows that aired in 2016.

Well, the awards were constructed after consulting a panel of experts, but apparently they didn't take into consideration what the community things. It's dominated by Yuri on Ice, Kabaneri, and Mob Psycho and while some of their nominations are deserved, others are most definitely not. And I would have liked to see more than just four nominations for all those categories, especially with the best opening and ending themes as snubbing the first Re:Zero ending as a nominee is just criminal, as well as picking Keijo when it's not even the best comedy of the season (not over Kiss Him, Not Me and Nanbaka). Maybe have six nominees with the last two being community input from stuff like the quarterly awards that we have been doing.

Ha!

The fans forum ( Awards ) were there for a long time before this

Another idea stolen from the fans

Excluding shows that are Fan-subbed I get but the fans forum allow that as some shows are gems now and then

But only 4 shows you can vote on ? when it should be open to all FUNI / NETFLIX / Amazoon PRIME / TAN etc

It has been done for at least the past few seasons ( Annual ) The format is the same just the fans have more shows to pick from!

Not sure why it was missed, although I sense a little bit of corporate buyout after reviewing all the categories provides a first to last theme for a select group of shows. But nonsense thinking aside like the oscarssowhite hashtag crap. Why is DREAMCATCHER not there for Magical Girl Raising Project ending?

Yeah. Most of them on the list are ones from the last season even. A lot of shows basically going ignored in it. Not even sure why they are bothering calling it an award when there is hardly any competition.

I mean take Villain of the year. You've got the guy from Kabaneri who to be honest. I'd already forgotten. Same with Erased. Never watched the Jojo and then you got the guy from Boku no Hero Academia. But no Betelgeuse Romani Conti. The one villain i clearly remember. And who i thought was a pretty mean bastard.

And that's basically how it goes. It's such a narrow selection i just can't help but feel these "awards" are nothing but a joke. Might as well get a Doritos pope for this while we are at it.

Yeah really disappointed that Black from Dragon Ball super is not in the villain list, yet the terrible and obvious villain in Erased is WTF. Also best fight in My Hero academia was obviously the final battle.
