Figure collecting has nothing expense-wise on manga/anime sketch collecting. $300 for a figure is a mere drop in the bucket for sketches from certain artists. While most really nice sketches from well known artists hover in the 1K range, it's not uncommon to pay 3, 5, 10 or even 15K for one sketch. And then there are those who collect Ghibli artwork, where a nice, complete set-up (cel, background, douga, etc) from Totoro can easily run you 25K. Check out some of the prices from past Big Web Auctions on Mandarake if you ever want to feel humbled.

I collect the original sketches drawn and signed by various mangaka and anime production artists. The draw for me is the uniqueness of the item. They're all one of a kind, not some mass produced junk. Owning something from the hand of an artist that you admire is a great feeling. I used to solely collect cels and other original production artwork from series like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, but started to make the transition to original sketches in 2009. Cels and douga are fun to collect because they were used in the actual creation of the series, and they're often cheap (you can buy a lot of good CCS cels for less than $50) as long as you're not buying stuff from Sailor Moon, Studio Ghibli and Dragonball. If you're tired of anime companies taking advantage of you with their high prices and crummy premium items, I'd encourage you to pick up some original artwork from a series that you enjoy instead. Some companies, like Aniplex, really hate it when you have their stuff...which makes it all the more enjoyable. I especially enjoy sending tweets to Viz when they want to show off their shikishi wall at Anime Expo and Comic Con, with something like "That's nice...here's mine." Viz doesn't like it when you show them up at their own game.

~ Gaming is certainly number one for me!
~ Art; more specifically, drawing, painting, & crafting.
~ Reading books - comics & manga included!
~ Obviously watching anime
~ Writing
~ Collecting stationary
~ Also collecting crystals! But minerals are pretty expensive sometimes. I still only buy small, $5-10 ones once in a blue moon.

Work can be considered a hobby, certainly! I relay (caption) calls for the hard-of-hearing as a part time job currently. I'm gunna go full time soon. It's good money, and it's interesting to pretty much eavesdrop on people's phone conversations lol. I guess that's a hobby of mine, too!

You ever care/study bumblebees? Totally random question, I know haha. I worked with them this past summer and it was pretty awesome. I know I got a greater appreciation for them now. They are really fuzzy and were fun to pet

Yeah they are
I worked through the USFS. A graduate student (who's with the USFS) posted a job opening on this one website where I apply to jobs. She decided to hire me, and the rest was history! She's conducting a 3 year study, so I have the chance to go back if I wish.

I've also seen similar positions on a different website through different agencies.
