How far would you go to save some $ on a product ? or trying to get things for free?

I talked to a random user in a thread online about a deal a retailer was offering

$40 product + a free movie ticket

apparently the person in question was thinking of buying the product for the free ticket

so pretty much he/she was thinking of using the ticket and then returning the $40 product..

this is a scam.. it doesn't matter how you put it

i guess this is the reason why places like wal-mart and bestbuy are very skeptical of people who are trying to price match and check every return with gift carefully..

honestly.. i doubt they would accept the return of a product without the free item (since it's also listed on the receipt).. but that will not stop people from trying to scam retailers

so you can price match the item and then also get the free gift card... but that's not what they want.. they want to keep the gift card while being allowed to return the item

scammers have an interesting way of thinking imo..

Whenever I take my SO out to this restaurant we both like, I always order a soup and nothing more.

... granted it's a pretty good soup. Subtly cheap.

If it's for myself, I have a weird little set of rules. If it's 50% off or less odds are I won't buy it. If it's 50-75% off I'll consider it but may or may not buy it. If it's 75-99.9% off I'll buy iy on the spot if it interests me. The exception: if it's hard/impossible to find and interests me I'll break the above rule and buy even with no discount.

If it's a gift for someone I care about (GF, Mother, Brother, etc) I won't hesitate to spend top dollar to make them smile. Price is no object as long as it's within my bank account's budget.

I also wouldn't do anything sleazy to save money (like the incident the OP mentioned).

Buy cheap, buy twice! So you might aswell invest in a high quality item.

I'm not a fan of designer clothes because high street brands are just as nice.

Eh, it depends. I'm thrifty in some areas and spendy in others. For example, when I go to cons, I share hotel rooms with friends, even though all of us could afford to get our own rooms (but who really wants to pay $150+/night?). But then we all spend on artwork, so I guess it evens out...

I take all my dates to Taco Bell. What? Taco's are awesome!!! I'll take a chalupa and a burrito over an expensive a$$ restaurant any day. Plus you don't have to just sit there and wait for an hour for your food while you're starving either. It only takes them seconds. What's not to like?

Honestly though it's not that I'm cheap....I just don't have any freaking money.

My first thought: going to Costco to get free food taste

I buy cheap items that I don't need much, and spend a lot on items I need for a higher quality.

same here..

but try the motel or inn 2-4 miles away from the center.. $40-$50 a night.. it's better than paying $150/night

depends.. on the months. if it's cold/cool enough to stay outside.. we would just sleep in the cars

so those dates went well?

might as well invite your date home and cook for her/him..

you will save more money and get more food if you cook yourself..
