on top of the business regulations-- businesses also have to deal with lawsuits..

$50 millions .. for parental negligence?. ok..

http://www.consumerreports.org/lawsuits-settlements/ikea-malm-dresser-tip-over-settlement-50-million-dollars/

the products at IKEA are cheaply made imo + i don't like how you have to go around and around just to get out once entered their stores

50 million is peanuts buddy.

I have this dresser.

You would have to let a toddler climb the thing like a ladder to the top in order to topple it over.

I know this is so off topic but...You know those IKEA Broccoli toys? I am so upset that it seems like they're no longer manufacturing them!

GAH DAMN

I used to live off of IKEA stuff back in the day (when I lived in England).
The trick is simply to ignore the signs and walk backwards (or whichever way starts closest to your objective).

As for the lawsuit, it happens because people have an expectation of materials they purchase, whether or not it complies with their position or policy with how their children are utilizing it is not the point in such things.

$50m is a lot for 3 toddlers since you can always just make more

They make safety brackets to attach a dresser to a wall. You should always do that with little kids around. Kids pull out the draws and use them like a ladder to climb up and see what treasures were placed out of their reach. Most dressers will tip over and crush the kid when they climb high enough. I almost took myself out that way, as a kid.. and that was well before Ikea.

It's just a settlement. Ikea is just paying its way out of a pain in the ass.

The parents are at fault 100% anyway. All tall Ikea furniture has safety brackets to fix the furniture to the wall so it can't fall over.
