They just don't make things to last like they used to... If I tried cracking walnuts with my phone it would be busted in a matter of days.

Nokia will last decades before breaking.

I don't know why I thought said person used a live grenade to open every single walnut he'd ever opened.
I find it sad that I've come to expect stuff like that from people.

I admit, when I first saw the thread title I also imagined someone throwing a live grenade into a pile of walnuts as his technique for cracking them.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one

But... that's a potato masher.

Anyway, while I wouldn't recommend using a grenade in the fashion this guy has been, appaprently the fuses in German grenades were typically only inserted right before entering combat, so there's a good chance this particular grenade doesn't have one. The head is still full of explosive material though, unless it's corroded away or gone inert over time.

Ahh, you beat me to the potato masher play. That is what I was brought up calling them!

If I remember right these stick grenades only had their fuses inserted right before the metal started flying ..so there is a good chance that thing still has a head full of explosive charge. It's probably gone inert by now though.

At the very least it won't explode without the charge.

A lot of people tend to view bombs as these ustable things that can be easily set off but most are actually pretty delicate and if they aren't triggered exactly as intended they don't really go off at all.
