Hey guys, coming here with a pretty desperate plea. I'm trying to find the name of a Japanese movie that I saw a few years ago on the plane (Cathay Pacific specifically), and I swear I've spent the past hour trying to find it to no luck. Hope you guys can help.

The movie is about a budding author who meets a loud girl at a bar and they eventually get married. They have a child together and everything, and then they find out she has some terminal disease (pretty cliche, yes). The movie from there is about the guy writing the story about what it was like living with his terminally ill wife, and how he manages life after she passes away.

I can't remember much else in terms of details other than the female lead kind of looks a bit like Miyazaki Aoi (sometimes) in the pic below.

I'm not too sure but I think the title of the movie is quite simple or short as well, but I don't remember too clearly on this.

Can anyone help? I've literally tried putting into Google "Japanese movies" + 2000 - 2016 and I don't believe I've found it.. It's absolutely killing me.

Thanks guys.

They usually have fairly recent movies included to their in-flight selection so what year was that flight? I tried doing a brief search using keywords but no luck. It did make me want to re-watch a few Japanese movies I've seen over the years, including a recent one called "If Cats Disappeared from the World" (世界から猫が消えたなら) and "Departures" (おくりびと)。

There's been one recently that fits the bill, called "Hana's Miso Soup"... might not be the one you want, but it's a great film.

Funny you say that, I actually saw If Cats disappeared from the World just a day ago during my flight back, as well as "Midnight Diner". Really got me back into the subtle vibe of Japanese movies which made me remember this film I watched previously. I'm not 100% sure to this but I think I can narrow down the year of the flight to either 2014 or 2015. I've had a look at a list of Japanese Movies on Google from years 2000 to 2016 and I actually still can't find that movie though. I have a vague feeling that it might be more of an indie film, or it was featured at some film festival (I think this was mentioned on the description on the plane, but again my memory isn't 100% on this).

The difficulty I'm experiencing finding this movie makes me believe the above though..

Thanks mate, sounds very much like the synopsis I described. I might add this to my get list.

Midnight Diner is on Netflix and a great series. You ever saw Departures? It's a great movie and music is even better since it was composed by Ghibli's legendary Joe Hisaishi.

Departures is on my to watch list, just never got around to it. Definitely should watch it soon, looks like it's gotten quite a lot of fan-fare and I keep seeing it during my search at the moment.

The more I search, the more convinced I am that this film was only featured at some film festival or something (and somehow was also placed onto Cathay's movie list???). Can't find anything anywhere, this is insane..

If anyone other than me actually cares, Cathay Pacific replied to me (props) and gave me the title of the movie I was looking for.

it is called 夫婦フーフー日記 / Till Death Do us What?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3783274/

http://asianwiki.com/Till_Death_Do_Us_What%3F

I am satisfied.
