I'm thinking about getting a new gaming laptop next year.

Can anyone throw in a good recommendation for a laptop from price range between $700-1200? I would prefer something under $1000 though but I am willing to spend a bit more to get the best performance.

Oh and I should note, I only play on laptop PC these days. I haven't used desktop in a very long time.

Cant say for sure. As Im getting my first very soon.

Getting this on Tuesday. Can report to you how well it works out for me haha.

It was recommended to me by a guy who is pretty good with tech, and I've had a few others check it out, and they've told me that it was a really good choice as well.

^ I have that one currently I think it's a really nice laptop.

That's fine. It's a matter of preference and in my opinion, game laptops are pretty great nowadays.

I have the ASUS STRIX ROG and I think it's a really great laptop for the price. It's a little higher than what you want being around the 1000-1300.

The MSI laptops are pretty good too, MSI GE62 is a little under one thousand right now.

if you don't care about VR, and you are not using a 4K external monitor or something, a GTX 1050 will be more than enough in most cases.
it's nowhere near as powerful as the 1060, but good enough for 1080p gaming, as well as being far more energy-efficient, which means you should be able to have superior battery life (well, compared to other gaming laptops)
laptops featuring the gtx 1050 will be introduced in CES 2017 next month. no prices confirmed, but it's expected to be cheaper than gtx 1060 laptops, maybe around 900 - 1000

Ah I heard about this one before. I recall reading about a review of it earlier this month.

Tell me how that works out soon

I don't know how long this sale will last, but Newegg has a Gigabyte laptop on sale that includes a Core i7 6th gen processor and GTX 1060 graphics w/ 16GB ram and a 256GB SSD and 1 TB HDD.

Pretty good deal for a solid gaming laptop. Not top of the line, but very good 1080p gaming.

Some are good. The first MSI and the ASUS are very similar. The first MSI has an SSD that the ASUS lacks, but the ASUS has a larger screen with G-Sync, which helps eliminate stuttering and tearing.

The second MSI is still running a 900 series GTX graphics card, so for that price point I'd ignore it. The other 3 all have GTX 1060 graphics cards for the similar or less prices.

The third MSI appears very similar to the first MSI. A slightly larger screen at 15.6", but with slightly less Ram at 12 GB. I don't know if 16GB vs 12GB will be much of a practical difference though. For some reason though Newegg's page for that laptop is far less descriptive in its specifications.

For the price though, the Gigabyte laptop I linked to is easily the best deal. The only thing it's lacking compared to some of those is the larger 17" screen if you really want one that large (15.6" is perfect for a laptop for me though) and no display port if that's something you would actually use.

$1300 price tag for a gtx 1060 desktop? hahaha no. that's ridiculously overpriced.
for gaming, just get a cheap amd fx 8350 or something, and a gtx 1070. you can probably build one for $900 or so.
edit: also, Kabylake was found not to give any significant performance increase over 6th gen (haswell i believe..?)
if you want intel, even a 6th gen i3 might be enough, particularly if you just want to game.

Well, it's a pre-built system. The price hike comes from labor. Also, Intel Core iX-6XXX is Skylake. You're right about building your own rig and Kabylake, though.

@Stark700: For your budget your best options are the Dell Inspiron i7467, the Acer Aspire VX-15 (both start at $799), and the Lenovo Legion Y520 ($899). All were announced at CES 2017 and should be available for sale by February.

As mentioned above, that's hideously overpriced. At that price, you could build a PC on the same platform with more certainty that it isn't going to be junk.
