I have also been considering pulling the trigger on a gaming laptop sometime soon but would like something that is VR capable and will run it smoothly as I don't have room for a desktop setup. I have been keeping an eye on newegg and understand that I will probably be looking at a price range of around $1,200-$2,000 or a little more in order to somewhat future proof myself. But I was wondering if anyone here has gone with a gaming laptop for VR/4k output capabilities and if so their suggestions?

i'd suggest looking into laptops that supports thunderbolt 3, so you can have an external graphics card attached to your laptop when you need it (they're around $500 or so iirc)

Not a huge fan of Dell. Had a lot of trouble with desktops dying in the past really quick. Don't know much about their laptops.

The Dell 15 7000 series is pretty good overall. If you're looking at FPS per $ spent, they're one of the best choices in laptops. You're not going to get a significantly better laptop until you get into laptops with 1060s in them around the $1K range.

However Dell support tends to be poor so if you do run into a hardware issue it's not going to be a pleasant experience.

If you're looking at laptop graphics cards the 10xx series cards in laptops put out almost exactly the same performance as their desktop models. So a laptop 1050Ti is going to perform almost the same as a desktop 1050Ti. The same can't be said about 9xx and previous cards. The 960M is roughly equivalent to a desktop 750Ti, and is significantly weaker than a regular 960.

It would be cheaper if you build it yourself, but for a complete it isn't that bad.

I would definitely recommend the Acer VX15, for $1000 you're getting a 1050ti 4gb, the latest 7th gen i7-7700HQ, 16gb ddr4 ram, a 256gb ssd, and a 1080 IPS panel. That's a really good deal

Sorry me buck'o I can't recommend a laptop of any kind for gaming . Only full size PC towers. with SLI or ATI Crossfire and liquid cooling.

Just get a computer that is right for Photoshop or heavy gaming and check the hardware requirements for that software or game.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone.

I bought a Predator Acer Helios 300 recently for $1050. Added 2TB SSHD storage space to it since the SSD space was too small to carry more games. Works quite well so far for games like The Witcher 3, Battlefield 1, Just Cause 3, etc.

I decided not to get the Dell laptop this time as I always had hard drive issues in the past with them.
