Here's the scenario:

You finally broke up with your beyond terrible and abusive boyfriend or girlfriend seven years ago. Now you're dating a wonderful person who loves you like crazy. Your new boyfriend or girlfriend who LOVES to read books recommends you a fiction novel that you find to be excellent. You start becoming obsess with the book and the author of that book has written other works that are just as good. You and your boyfriend or girlfriend decides to go book signing. When you go up to get your book signed you are shocked to discover that your favorite author is none other than your ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend. Your ex sees you and is shocked to discover that you're a fan of their work. You can't believe that such a wonderful novel was written by your loser of an ex. Your loser of an ex can not believe you liked their work.

By telling the truth. Don't hold anything back.

If I were so obsessed, I would have done the research in advance. I'd walk out, too.

Though on some consideration they might have had a change of character. Maybe lurk to see if I could sense remorse.

You'll probably wished you discovered it sooner.

Depends on the ex, really.
But I wouldn't really spaz out or walk out, just that my demeanor would change.

But what if they haven't changed their personality? They're still the biggest scumbag on the planet who just happened to be a very successful novelist.
