Returning a Gift? Beware: Many Stores Have Tightened Their Rules
http://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/returning-gift-beware-many-stores-have-tightened-their-rules-n700131

Wal-mart extended the return period for the items i bought from them within 11/1 - 12/31/2016 to March 2017..

Bestbuy i think non-elite/elite plus.. you have until January 15,2017..

back then the store will give you 30-90 days to return a product.. now it's a measly 14-15 days..

so even if you have items that are still sealed.. after 1 4-15 days you will get credits not a refund..

i got some games that no one wanted (or already bought on their own) so i'll be returning them to the stores..

Newegg has some products that are nonreturnable+nonrefundable ..

My family of 11 had a massive present trade this year but only 1 item had to be taken back because I bought the wrong size! ;o; How terrible of me. My brother and I went out to the mall today where I bought some really cool belts for him and they let us just trade the belts for a small size without any hassle at all. That was so cool of them. I feel like I dodged a bullet. Next time Ill just tell him to eat some donuts and gain weight. Seems so much easier. kek

I won't be returning anything, either.
There were a few gifts that were pretty mellow and not high on the list of things I'll use; however, there's no need to return them. In some situations, that only time I think you should return a gift to a store is either:

A) The product is clothing and does not fit you at all.
B) The product is not clothing and is defective.
C) The product you wanted could not be located so the person bought something they know would be equivalent (for you to return at a later date).

Outside of those conditions, I think it's a bit disrespectful (personally) when you return a gift. Some people put a lot of time and consideration into gifts and it seems a bit of a dick move to return something they actually bought for you.

Exactly what I think. I would never return a gift even if I would never use it or wear it. My sister gave me a nice jacket. I already have 9. Hers really don't do anything better than the other jackets I have. So I just keep it as a thanks.

It's not being returned, persay, but somebody bought me a game I already had (Pokemon Moon) so they're going to exchange it for something else.

First time I've ever had something like this happen and good lord do I feel guilty about it.

To be fair, you did say return versus exchange.
In those kinds of conditions, I can understand (to a degree). But some people would still take offense to that. I would be upfront with them about it; stating that you'll be exchanging it for another game as you've already the game for that console. (don't forget to apologize for not updating your "these are the games I have" list before Christmas, especially after all those massive sales you've taken advantage of).

At least, that's how I'd approach it. Most people that know me are smart enough not to buy me video games, as they know that if there's one that I want - I tend to have it on release date or within a month of its release. But even then, I keep an updated roster of all games I have on Steam/PS4/XB1/3DS/Vita - just to make sure that nobody overlaps. lol

personally. .i don't make such a big deal out of it ..

i'm buying gifts for others.. and now i'm returning some of those gifts because they already have them

so i'm just returning the extra stuff.

the games i don't have i'll keep the rest i'll return.. i don't think it's rude or anything .. i would rather have them tell me upfront that they have the same gifts right there instead of just accepting them and donate/give away or return behind my back. etc..

i bought about 60-70 games .. will be returning about 5-8 of them (extra copies)

I did have to return a gift, but it was a gift I gave to someone else in my family, not one given to me. Apparently, purple wasn't her color, so I had to trade it in for black lol.
