The final one.

Here's the scenario:

You are the parent of four teenagers. Three of your four teens have become highly successful and famous people at such a young age. While the fourth one is struggling to catch up to his siblings. The fourth one isn't as brilliant as your other children and lacks many talents. Your fourth child gets depressed and angry over the fact that he can't be like his siblings. As a parent what do you do to help your fourth child understand?

How do you help?

Your 3 siblings done me proud, but as a parent, it hurts me to never see a child smile. If your siblings were to become miserable as a result of their careers, I would've rather them be ordinary and healthy. Your well being would be among my greatest happiness.

Your siblings climbed quickly without much hardship while you climb slowly with much. People are not measured by how high or fast they climb. They are measured by how far they climb back up once they have fallen. I do not expect that you will fall as far as your siblings, because you'll have learned more about dealing with life's hardships while you were climbing.

Best way to deal with a problem is to get rid of the cause

I know a friends like this, always depressed, he even wrote something borderline suicidal in one of his projects that got him sent to the dean's office. This was way back in high school. From what I understand, he turned out that way because his parents always compared him to his Harvard grade older brother..

For me, I was always compared to my bother as well. That all changed after I became more successful then him, I started working hard in school because I wanted to. Sometimes parents just need to know when to back the fuck off.

"Well, of course you aren't like them, because you aren't them. You aren't them. You are you, not ______, _______, or ______. I ought to know; I gave birth to you four, remember. I sure as hell haven't had cloned quadruplets, and I made damned sure to give you four different names. When you're done playing pretend and constantly comparing yourself to your siblings, maybe, just maybe, you can try polishing your own abilities, instead of taking everything for granted and being pettily jealous."
