Not sure why it was missed, although I sense a little bit of corporate buyout after reviewing all the categories provides a first to last theme for a select group of shows. But nonsense thinking aside like the oscarssowhite hashtag crap. Why is DREAMCATCHER not there for Magical Girl Raising Project ending?

I've closed this because it's not really a General Discussion topic.

The answer is provided in the site news announcement: /forumtopic-976961/crunchyroll-presents-anime-awards-2016

Over the past few months, we’ve worked with a panel of independent judges to help select nominees for each of our 14 awards categories.

Judges:
Miranda Sanchez - Editor at IGN Entertainment
LeSean Thomas - Animation producer, director (The Boondocks & Black Dynamite), creator of Crunchyroll’s upcoming project Children of Ether
Xavier Woods - WWE superstar and known anime-lover, aka Austin Creed
Matt Schley - Otaku USA Magazine
Yomimaid - Event Chair at San Francisco Anime Festival & Cosplay
Tristan Gallant - Glass Reflection
Lauren Orsini - Otaku Journalist

To gripe about the options provided, there is already a thread in the Anime forum:
