Celebrity deaths aside (and those in the anime and manga community, as well), 2016 wasn't my worst year, but certainly wasn't my best years, either.

On the downside, I was force to move from where I lived for over two decades. On the upside, my employment is now stable and predictable.

Do people really measure how great/terrible their year has been by the number of celebrity deaths now? Sure, people like David Bowie were great musicians but although they're 6 feet under now, their work still lives on and that's not going to change anytime soon. Same goes for Carrie Fisher despite her potential in the future films. As for the election, sure, half the country is upset by it and I, too, find myself feeling disappointed by the results but it's definitely not the end. But these are all just minor disappointments and small upsets in our daily lives. So unless you lost someone dear to you this year, lost your house to a fire, became the victim of a crime, or you came down with a permanent debilitating disease, I don't see the problem. If given the chance, I'd probably relive this year over and over again. It wasn't perfect but definitely better than some.

Personally, 2016 was an okay year for me. I managed to pass my hardest semester yet at college with decent grades so I'm really happy that I was able to come home holding my head high (I was really afraid of not passing some of my classes). Hopefully, I'll have an easier work load next semester in 2017 which I'm looking forward to. Having 4 of my wisdom teeth removed sucked, but the surgery and recovery was successful and I'm not in pain which is amazing ( the surgery was a week ago). In terms of world events, the election was awful, Trump is terrifying (his picks for offices are awful and hypocritical), Brexit is terrifying, and its sad to see celebrities die. I know it was a long time ago, but I still get sad that Robin Williams died as he was one of my favorite actors.

To me personally it was a bad year, particularly the last 3 months there were a lot of heartaches and heartbreaks: I've had 2 failed relationships, lost 2 dogs, and had some setbacks in my studies so I'll have to wait another 4 months to graduate. But I'm positive 2017 will be much better because after hitting rock bottom there's nowhere else to go but up.

Went to Vancouver

Went to Tokyo, did a whole load of stuff there, saw a lot of stuff, bought a lot of stuff.

Good year for me.

Good to hear about your employment because there is some evidence that age discrimination is on the rise when it comes to corporate hirings and firings. Loyalty to a company? Pshaw, they'd fire you in a split second if they think that'd boost their bottom line. Can't even expect to retire from anywhere anymore.

This year was tough for my family. There was a lot of change involved and hard times for some people, but that is what can happen sometimes. We need to be strong and there for each other.

It has ups and down. My GPA dropped this year so I will study harder to achieved better grades next year. I finally have a best friend who reminded me of an old friend. So I'm quite hapoy with that.
Brexit and Trump won are not good things at all plus many of the talented celebrity passed away. This year is a wonderful year for asian movies. Many south korean movies like The Handmaiden Train to Busan gained alot of viewers and beside that this is a comeback year for anime industry.

Well I finished school and joined college four months later. Also I joined Crunchyroll which was one of the best decisions I made in a while, and I watched a load of good anime, old and new.

Meh. I've had better, I've had worse.

On a personal level... mm, I am still doing what I've been doing, my life is okay, my marriage is happy, and I've played a few good games and watched some good anime this year. Yuri!!! On Ice has supplanted Revolutionary Girl Utena as my favourite series of all time, and I've found myself rather addicted to Bloodborne now that I have a PS4. So it's been a fun year for me, if otherwise uneventful.

Carrie Fisher's death was rather sad, but she's probably the only celebrity whose death gave me pause beyond 'oh, that's a pity'. Mostly because I enjoy reading her Twitter and hearing her speak about mental illness. But I didn't know her personally, and in the... twenty hours or so since her death I've already mostly moved on. As for politics, I can't say I'm pleased about Brexit or President Trump, but my politics are such that I doubt I'd have been happy with the alternatives. Happier, certainly, but there was no 'win' for me in either vote. So 2016 was just another year, for me, albeit one with the potential to ruin 2017 in some exciting ways.

I started to realize how easy it is for a majority to move from a rational perspective to a completely extreme and dangerous viewpoint in Democracy.

So, a truly wonderful year.

First half was great. Did a lot of neat things, hung out with good friends, and discovered lots of great new anime in a relatively low-stress environment. Second half was the exact opposite (except the anime part)

Yeah, I was gonna say, at least the anime in the second half was pretty good .

Nope, screw 2016. It needs to go. This has been a really bad year for me. Had to move back home to the parents house, was dumped twice and my job has become more stress than it's worth but I can't seem to get out of it. Also, I failed my GED test... This hasn't been the best year for me personally.

I'm ready for a new year and hopefully some light on the horizon finally.

Blaming years for what you got in them is nothing new--Imagine how people felt about 1943:

1968 and 1969 didn't exactly have their fans, either.
