Post Reply MTV runs a racist Ad; Prompt logical Responses
Posted 12/28/16
One day I'll relate my experience conducting job interviews for an electrician's apprentice. I was horrified by the millennials that came looking for work. Their general appearance, lack of personal hygiene, lack of respect, and sense of entitlement was enough for me to give up and just hire another experienced worker. It's a shame because an experienced electrician can easily earn $20-40/hr pretty much anywhere in the country. It's just a matter of investing time and effort in learning, but nobody is going to try and teach a know it all kid who will just end up hurting himself on the job.

I'll believe in my privilege as soon as I receive medicaid, proper medical treatment for my disabling injuries (which did not yet earn me a disabled designation), and I've returned to the workforce at even half of my prior strength.

Until then I'll do what is in my control and develop technical and artistic skill while sitting on my ass voting toward increasing the selection of available jobs in the area. Let's loosen the clamp the ISP and media corps have on us so we can have actual progress in this country, through technology.

Both sides politically need to get over themselves and prepare to deal with the problem of a new class of human that will emerge after the automation revolution, the "useless" class. We need to be prepared for this socially.

Seems like more and more that certain groups of people think I should feel bad for being a moderately successful "white guy."

That's never going to happen.

It's not really a privilege, but you can get a sun burn easier.

You're still a child, with childish, self centered opinions. Using stupid phrases like "authoritarian SJW's" that "don't use their brains". Parroting nonsense that you've read on some right wing rag does not make you smart. Oh yeah, and the word you are looking for is example, not paradigm.
Yes, child, I was in university when you were born. I really think you need to check your privilege. What do you think was actually racist about that ad. Was America always great of all of it's citizens? Do black lives not matter?
Add explain to me what actually is bad about social justice.

So you were in university before I was born and you spend all your time being condescending to people half your age on an anime forum...

And I'm the child.

Yeah, keep fooling yourself there buddy.

Social justice is bad because it is fosters an emotional response to issues that need logical conclusions. If you want an honest discussion you need to quell your anger to ask honest questions and have them answered. A university taught you at least that much, no?

America hasn't always been great to its citizens. I never said it had. But your a fool if you think blaming white males for the generational issues of all people has anything to do with the actual issues of the world. A generalization, by the way, that is at the polar opposite of what a good university teaches you about social issues.

Literally shocked me that this ad got the 'O.K.'. In my opinion, this is more proof that authoritarian SJW's don't use their brain. The video below has a rational response to it though. Whether your Democrat or Republican ignorance is unacceptable. The people in this video demonstrate a level of intolerance prevalent in the worst of us.

I got question. Why are you watching MTV? I got cancer from their general shit alone.

I don't see how their general appearance matters for a job about skill and knowing what you are doing.

Unless gladiatorial games become reality or another World war. There also the chance of aliens or random ass fart from the universe killing us with his beam.

They may as well have. You don't go for a job interview looking like you just dragged yourself out of bed and grabbed the first items of clothing you could reach. If you can't be bothered to make yourself look presentable, It's doubtful that you would put any effort into your work as well.

I agree that having your privilege challenged is not the same as racism. There are a lot of folks on this forum who I believe are oversensitive and get easily and aggressively defensive when issues related to race get discussed. It's pretty annoying and distressing.

However, I also believe that calling people "fascist" or repeatedly referring to them as "child" is not conducive to reasonable discussion, so I'll be making some edits to your posts in this thread. (I'll also be reading through other people's posts for similar offenses -- just got to yours first since they were reported.)

And to those of you slinging the term "SJW" around, especially as jab at other users, please stop. It's a dismissive label, meant as a slur. Let's all try to be a bit more respectful of each other.

I couldn't even finish watching this video. This video was so stupid in every way possible. The one thing that got to me was the whole "America being Great". Now to begin with yes American was not great in the beginning, not just for blacks, but for every poor person at that time. Over the years American has started to become great. The whole privilege challenged, you want to know a real privilege challenged? Look up how the Native Americans are treated today. Does privilege challenged exist? Yes. Should it be a problem? No, but this challenged can be changed. MTV could have done a better job in this topic. Instead, MTV made it worst. Just remember people we are all equal. We are Homo Sapiens.

/agree
Wtf is with kids these days not showing respect to potential employers anyways?
I'm an automotive mechanic and could qualify as a journeyman electrician if I wanted to. When I interviewed for my current job I did so in business casual attire, not a ratty tshirt and jeans so dirty they could stand up on their own. If you can't be bothered with showing up to a JOB INTERVIEW in appropriate clothes you sure as shit have no place around high voltages. Although it might be funny to watch a hipster grab a hot and neutral wire of a mains bundle (one in each hand of course).. hehe
