What makes you decide to post something here? Think through your last few posts: what made you want to write what you did? Were you reacting to something you saw? Did you want to talk to someone? Are you looking for people who agree with you? What is it that goes on in your mind when you converse here, and what do you get out of it - emotionally and otherwise? More generally, what made you decide to start participating in the forums in the first place?

To waste time, to get my point level up (I want to make a poll), to comment on things that seem interesting.

I honestly don't remember why I started posting. I guess I just wanted to get involved in the community a bit. Nowadays, I just post to pass time when I'm bored, and to answer questions like the post above me said.

I started posting because I was bored. I also kind of wanted attention, I think: it's nice to see people respond to you. A couple times I'll post because something bothers me and I feel I need to correct it, but now my primary motivation is seeing what people will say and do. I'm social and have plenty of friends where I live, but we're all scientists. That makes it hard to get other perspectives - and scientists suck at more philosophical discussions (they just do not understand epistemology, and they don't want to). Here I have no idea what I'll get. Here no one is more prominent than anyone else. The internet is a wild ride - even here where it's relatively tame. I learn a lot hearing from all sorts of people and watching them react. And as stupid as things get here, I think it makes me feel better about humanity. We're certainly fascinating.

The other thing I want to do talking to people here is to get them to think about how the internet affects them.

I post on the forms since I lack an outlet of some sort to focus my energy on and choose to squander my time reading other peoples opinions pretending to actually give a fuck and utilize the time spent to learn something but I usually don't and just mindlessly occupy my own headspace for the most part, though I do intentionally read others posts cause they act as a catalyst to further analyze certain things that I find enjoyable to think about but I don't really need a catalyst from here to actually do it. I want/need some sort of communication with other people even though most of the time I'm not conversing with people, perhaps I just want people to hear my thoughts cause I pretend they have some value to offer others whether that be comedic or something else, all in all for the most part It's really just a pointless, wasteful, and exhausting waste of my time (because I have somewhat of an understanding of what I actually want to do, and what isn't conducive to that, and how to get there as intelligently as I'm capable of at the moment) but I continue to engage because of what I said in the beginning.

Mindlessly occupying your own headspace is more useful than you might think: actually writing and responding to people coalesces the ideas in your head. Just writing something like the above might teach you about yourself.

Not likely in this case.
