I think life skills come from experience. You can read about people's opinions and psychologist's opinions on what's right and wrong but ultimately, you are the person that chooses what you believe which is what you pick up from various influences. Life skills can't really be taught in a book or in school for that matter. You learn about life skills as you experience life itself.

Indeed 'learning from your mistakes' sort of thing.

We have Martial Arts lessons in P.E once a week in our school, it's great for the newbies, I don't get to go because I'm a 6th form student, and am already an expert anyway but it's great for the little kids, everyone should have self-defence skills especially with bullying and stuff.

*thinks the school system is far too generalised. trying to have a little bit of everything to cover the majority of students. that sounds ok on paper but i think it'd be far more efficient to have specialised courses depending on each students interests and abilities. that way they dont waste their time learning things they wont ever use and have all the skills they need to work. also helps businesses save money on training and people faking skills for a paycheck.

well.. if you learn how to apply in everyday life what you've learned in school you won't be even thinking about them only teaching us useless stuffs.

school is all about useless knowledge, brainwashing and wasting time. at least you'll get a good mark on a certain paper you'll get a good job. school is teaching you in how you would become a slave to this society. from the first day of school to the last day of school all the same, the same ruse, bullshits and brainwashing nothing more or less. il go to school as long as i could get a good job in the end. after all, without a job you have no money. if you don't have money you'll starve to death. and you couldn't possibly get a job without school. that's why i think school would be worth the waste of time.

anyways, school only teaches about "life skills" than "book smarts" it would only end up being vocational and spending more than decades of schooling would just end up a waste. like i said, school is all about wasting time, book smarts tend to do a better job.

I counted and average not so smart student spends almost 16 percent of their lives in school.which is 9.6 years counting in hours . to study what? Maths science and other boring stuff, that is not that important later in our working lives,so lets say is'nt it better to teach us life skills in school?What do you think?

i agree. because having HIGH grades doesn't necessarily mean that you'll be successful

actually some say (people who i know that are employed) "STREET SMARTS" tend to be
more successful than book smart students.

I don't like school but it's necessary, in a way school is a form of life skills. Going through high school to college and then starting a life for yourself. I'll agree some things required in school are seemingly pointless, like physical education. I don't understand why it'd be required for students to know how to play sports, rules of certain games, or to run track. O_o;

Lol. well teaching "book smarts" is also subtly teaching life skills in my opinion. You may not think you are going to use it but in the future you may think of it and decide on doing something similar. For example : you and your friend get into an argument. You try to defend something and so does your friend. The perfect solution for this is math, or even more specific, geometry. For proofs you may use math to prove not just shapes and figures, but anything. You need to assume that your friend's idea is correct, then list reasons why it is correct until you get something that doesnt match up and proves that your friend is wrong and then continue proving you are right. This isnt just for geometrical proofs either it can be used for anything. Life skills are learned through experience and book smarts give a large portion of that experience as well as just living life and exploring boundaries.
