Our parents are supposed to teach us life skills, or at least help us along. Also, just being around a bunch of your peers everyday helps you develop important social skills, unless you're a "loner."

to answer one question nobody else seems to answer, you cant learn life skills in school, you can only learn those thru ur own experiences and pain. learn from those things whether they are bad or good and then you get life skills, and I guess you could learn those at school too, but it's not something that's taught by teachers... even parents cant teach you life skills, they just give you opportunities to learn them, but the actual learning comes from how you perceive things.

I think they should teach some life skills but like other people have said the rest is up to what you pick up yourself and from your enivornment/people around you, after all learning to learn by yourself is a life skill too XD;;

Well, education helps us deal with life and learn from it. Don't you want a good job? It's not about survival, it's about living modernly.

I hate school because of all the ignorant retards in it, like ghetto classmates and lazy ass teachers

I don't think teachers care about anything other than money. They can't even teach common sense. Even my teachers sleep in class Nothing influential is ever told by them, just some bull crap about going to college to "get lots of money." What do I mean?

Teacher: "Go to college. It's important because you'll get a lot of money if you finish and get a job."

Even though money is, nowadays, required for a goal to be accomplished, people can always rob and steal. All they talk about is money and complain about ghetto students They can't even help them not to be idiots. Therefore, I hate most human teachers other than me!

I think teachers should teach about Buddha and His teachings and morals. He's the only teacher I love other than me

Hints in the title, they are life skills, you can only learn them through living

they should! but...then again, because the "book smarts" are important too. so i guess we can't really say, take away the knowledge. but i have to agree, it's boring. and i'm like, almost below average with it...

Sure, I guess that'd be pretty cool. It'd be even better if they didn't force you to take things you KNOW you don't need in the future and you KNOW you don't want to learn it. God, parabola's and their equations in Math have made me fear X's and Y's lol.

As much as I hate it, I need to study all those subjects even if I won't do some complex formula in math or create something like in science. Basics has always been a necessity for preparation and it always will be. So despite hating homework and those subjects, I have to do it.

ok here is my thoughts on the educational system...it is heading in the wrong direction most schools in America only teach what is on the end of year test because that is how they get money the better your students do on the test the more funds such school receives from the government.
\ the high-school i went to did not do this except for the math teacher all the other teachers more or less said screw it and taught us real world knowledge
for example in my chem class our teacher taught us how to make gunpowder and alcohol.
witch does not sound like much but i know quite a few schools that do nothing but make their students set and do handouts that followed the end of year test to a tee.

now that that is said i would like to express my thoughts on college education...(im starting the nursing program) and it is epic fail as well
the only ones that should be takes is science and math every thing else can be learned several times faster by making the students do the job them selves (internship) instead of making them read a 1000 page book about why humans act the way they do for a psychic class that you will never use or remember

to sum it up you learn much faster if you do it your self instead of reading about it and the schools in America are heading in the wrong direction !!

book skill are important but school focus on that to point were life skill are barely taught. So yes that area i believe need more focus behind it. I feel that after elementary that junior high and high school need be like college then have college be finish book work.

It depends what type of school you go to. In some schools you need to have street smarts to survive. Also, book smarts are as important as street smarts. You need both to have a good life.
