Okay, so my mom is looking to get into anime. She loves drama, mystery and thrillers. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've moved this over to the Advice, Info, Recommendations forum.

Regarding Potentsaliva's recommendation, it doesn't really seem to fit, and it's my gut feeling that it's not a serious recommendation.

She might like Psycho-Pass if it's okay to have sci-fi as part of the drama/mystery/thriller mix. (It qualifies on all counts I think).

Maybe Erased? I think it failed pretty hard in the last few episodes, but up to that point it's excellent and fits well as a mystery/thriller.

Shouwa Genwa Rakugo is an amazing show that has some mystery elements but is mainly drama. It's so damn good, though, that it's something to recommend to anyone. It also totally avoids many anime tropes that put people off the medium.

If you can find Monster anywhere, it's the best drama/mystery/thriller out there. Hard to locate though.

Beautiful Bones is a fun mystery--has some things in common with the TV show Bones, if she likes that.

Hyouka is a solid mystery series, though the mysteries involved are pretty typical high-school teenage problems.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is a solid supernatural mystery drama/comedy/romance. Has a bit of ecchi humor if your mom is super sensitive to that sort of thing, but nothing excessive.

For pure drama, Clannad or Kanon are tops in my book. On CR, try Nagi no Asukara (for a dash of supernatural mystery), Anohana (tear-jerker), or Usagi Drop (heart-warming).

Bunny/Usagi Drop, but do not let her find out about how the light novel series ends whatever you do though
