German minister has a rather low opinion of consumers if he thinks "vegetarian" is confusing anyone.

Vegetarians are confused about vegetarianism, so I think he has a case.

lol What a clown. What does he suppose should happen; cops going door-to-door to check and see if folks call it "vegetarian sausage?" This minister's ban hinges upon semantics. It's not worth the money.

Typical food industry labeling wankery. Last week the US had this little gem about milk:

This week, a group of 32 members of Congress, many of them from big milk-producing states, came to Briczinski's aid. They wrote a letter to the Food and Drug Administration, calling on the FDA to order manufacturers of plant-based drinks to find some other name. Democratic Vermont Rep. Peter Welch, a co-author of the letter, points out that the FDA already has a legal definition of milk, and "the FDA regulation defines milk as something that comes from a mammary gland. So we're asking the FDA basically to enforce its own regulation."

This guy seems like he's very serious about vegan/vegetarian dishes not being mislabelled as meat.

"Clarity and truth, transparency for consumers - those are the measures that should apply for the labelling of all products, always and forever."

Always and forever

How extreme.

Just put large print labels on the packages,"Vegetable filled sausage shaped food". That way non vegans/herbivores will know that it's not s a sausage.

In college we use to joke about the sausageless rolls. It was vegetarian but it tasted so good.

I think the new packaging should have an image of him making a stern face with a little chat bubble that says

"This product is absolutely NOT meat - always and forever"

And, pretty much, I think always and forever should become his schtick. There could be a real career in advertising for this guy.
