Since New Years is Sunday, our company gives us Monday off. If it is on a Saturday, they give us Friday off. They usually let us off 2-4 hours early too on the day prior to a holiday (so for example this Christmas and New Years I got the last two Friday's off 2-4 hours early) plus Monday off. It's pretty nice.

I thought it is common for companies to give employees day-off if the holidays falling in the weekend, unless the jobs are essential. Anyways, I'm off on Monday.

Next year, Christmas and New Year are on Monday, meaning long weekends again.

No matter what, I always have Mondays and Tuesdays off. I was scheduled to work December 25 for my eight hour shift, plus 4 hours of overtime, but I so lucked out, when one of my co-workers asked to work on my Christmas day! Hell, yeah! You can work my hours! Then on New Years eve (even as I type), one of my other co-workers asked to work my overtime hours for New Years Eve.... Hell, yeah! You can have my OT hours!

So, here I am, buzzed on sake, and typing drivel on CR! I'll call my folks in Chicago in a couple to Wish them a happy new years! Yeah!

To top it all off... I'm off Mondays and Tuesdays.... So... No. I'm not scheduled to work Monday... Heh...

The company I work for gave us Monday off, but I had vacation days I had to use before the 10th, so I'm off until Friday the 6th.

No, not a contractor. It's just that the company I work for follows federal holidays; since they didn't know what days to give us off when they started off. Employee handbook states we get off the following days:

- New Years Eve
- New Years Day
- Day After New Years
- Memorial Day
- Labor Day
- Independence Day (4th of July)
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving
- Day After Thanksgiving
- Day before Christmas
- Christmas
- Day After Christmas

Plus I have 4 weeks of PTO (can only take a maximum of two weeks in a row unless due to a family emergency) for a year. That's pretty much my holiday schedule. There are exceptions, as I'll randomly work on a holiday to give myself a "floating holiday" to take without it impacting my PTO (especially if I'm out of PTO days, but they reset ...... well.. today).

lol. I work for a startup tech company that's been around for a while. We have some of our OG dev team in India who get off far more than that, so I guess they felt obligated to be as generous with our days off as possible. To be fair, though, originally it was only two weeks off PTO (for all). There are a few of us that exchanged raises for an additional week of PTO off. I make enough, so I've given up two raises in lieu of PTO. Holidays are holidays, though.

Last time I checked the 30 or so that still work in our India office get off around 6 weeks just for holidays/celebrations, not including their 2-8 weeks PTO (depending on seniority and salary).

I work in an office so same here. Paid holidays are SO nice! (I did the whole retail thing, so I know how working holidays feels--without the time and a half or VERY limited staff on days that WERE. Definitely don't miss those retail days at ALL!)

interesting..

i only get 8 day a year. and if one of those days fall on a weekend. eh.. it's just like a normal weekend..

not many companies will count black Friday, day after new year or day after Christmas
