Some are and some arent it all depends on the game and the people that play that game but i agree with every game on that list, from what i've seen the overwatch community is possibly the least toxic one out there.

Battlefield community is pretty toxic, worry only about stats and saying people who play for fun are "bad". The Kancolle community is somewhat toxic while I'm at, some hate it when you like a character simply for her looks, rather than stats.

The Dark Souls community is a strange one. There are so many people who are extremely helpful and will go well out of their way to try to introduce the games to others. But there are also so many people who see there being only one way to play the game (their way) and crap on anyone who doesn't instantly "git gud." These people often seem to forget that they themselves are speaking with the background of several Souls games worth of experience and a healthy storage of knowledge on what to do and not to do. It's sort of sad to see the Souls community get crapped on so much by those who call it toxic.. but I can't really defend it either.

There's a lot of people who instantly adjusted to the Souls series though(myself included) and it's hard for a lot of them to except that others find it hard. Another problem with the Souls community is the fact that people are extremely sensitive and little kids in it. There's that whole, "I find it hard, so you're a liar if you think it's easy." There's the people who help regardless of whether or not they found the game easy, there's those who don't help because it's easy or don't help because they don't want others to get ahead of them, etc etc. The community is pretty toxic though, people complaining about PvP, PvE, hate on players constantly, it's tragic lol. I love being part of the community and meeting people who do a lot of PvP as well as others who think the game is easy and we rag on some things about it.

Almost all... well, ALL... MMOFPS and MOBA gaming communities are toxic. Games that rely heavily on tough raid content and primarily PVP based games are often populated by assholes as well. Other communities, where PVP and raid grouping aren't the selling point, are usually pretty relaxed; you'll still find the usual "this cookie-cutter build is better than yours," but for the most part, it's a lot more friendly when you aren't competing against everyone else for limited drops, rankings, etc. The Final Fantasy XI/XIV community is pretty pleasant, but it might just be the subscription fee and diversity in activities that dilutes the poison.

The problem that everyone faces from day to day (I'm talking about both real life and over the internet) is that *SOME* people think that they're more important than others. They think for themselves first and not about the person that they're talking trash to. The internet I think has it worse is because people know they can get away with saying some of the worst things possible to somebody.

This is generally the case for "Pay to Play" subscription-based MMORPGs. I think there are a handful of exceptions (see: WoW) where the player base is as toxic as "Free to Play" MMORPGs due to the overwhelming population or just the environment caters to toxicity in the community. When it comes to other games (see: FPS and RTS online), you'll learn quickly that it boils down to skill versus talent.

Some gamers adapt to new things quicker than others - a good example, which was listed here, was Dark Souls. I jumped into it and played through the first two without any issues whatsoever; my brother, who is also a gamer, love/hated Dark Souls because he couldn't quick get down the idea of parrying/blocking attacks. So then it becomes a battle of "someone is lying" because "it was <insert> for me".

I don't think that all gamers are assholes. I've been in the FGC (Fighting Game Community) for a while and have seen it go from being an awesome community to a toxic one (mostly because ego stands in the way of good communication). There are still pockets of greatness; while there are just as many (if not more) pockets of toxicity (like LowTierGod who hates on anyone who criticizes him). I would say that line of logic (some pockets of great, some pockets of bad) exists in many gaming communities due to the competitive nature of some games.

Gamers aren't the only ones with inflated egos. I played Halo once upon a time, and the community was terribly elitist. So many teenagers with a strange fixation on their apparent "skill" in a video game. I wouldn't say that they had superiority complexes but there was definitely egotism in the air. Although I think it's too much of a stretch to generalize gamers in such a way.

No, but people are.

There are going to be people who are assholes in videogames, just like there is online, or in real life. Additonally a vocal minority is louder then a silent majority. Like 10% of people in a multiplayer game can be assholes, but the rest are just quiet and just trying to play the game.

Some communities stand out more then others, that at times make you feel like the whole community is full of assholes. Like back in the days of Halo 3, if you weren't a General and you had yellow grade bars below your ranking it seems like your constantly being ridiculed for not being good enough.

Its easy for me or anyone else to highlight negative examples of gamers cause we've all been there and seen people be assholes. What really shines is the decent people who help you out in the game, send actual friendly messages or even apologize for doing something wrong.

Like I was raiding in Destiny once and a guy who was new to the raid kept apologizing for dying or whatever mistakes he made, but you can tell he was trying his best to contribute and have fun with us and the whole vibe from the party was pleasant and even alittle goofy at times cause people were just having fun. I don't really have games like this anymore, unfortunately, but when I do, its really reminds me of why I started playing video games in the first place.

I'm neutral to the Dark Souls community, but I hate Genwunners, they're the real social rejects in the gaming community, but I also hate Pokemon fans who disrespect Digimon and calling it a rip-off. I'm no PC elitist but I do like Korean mmorpgs. Honestly, I think Final Fantasy has some of the whiniest, most change resistant and ignorant fans I've EVER seen (that's why I prefer being in the Valkyria or Legend of Heroes fanbase instead).
