Not just assholes, most gamers are phony idiots or posers pretending to like video games. My taste in video games is much deeper than your average "hardcore" gamer.

twitch twerk gamers ? -- cam girls found a good way to earn quick and easy cash -- even underage boys..

the parents can just dispute the charges as fraud when their sons/daughters used the pay to pay for those twerkers on twitch. teenage boys in puberty can be pretty stupid and not very wise with money (especially with someone else's money). Is seeing some cam girl's breast bounce when she jumped worth $10 ?

It is to that poor little boy!

It's sad people literally will shit on themselves just to make money and degrade themselves overall. It really sucks that it's also included in the gaming community. Anyone new starting a YT or Twitch can't even get anything up and going unless you have a webcam for sure and if you're a female that wants to "show" some skin...might as well start with 2k followers/subs.

To the main post, It's been said but yeah...gamers are people, people are assholes.

Souls community used to be great, it initially grew completely organically, no marketing or anything by FromSoft in the West. A few years ago it just started getting so full of memes and zany personalities, not to mention all the "x is the Dark Souls of y" articles and Souls becoming the benchmark for high difficulty.

It just got too much. I never considered it a "toxic" community like MOBAs have, but it's definitely not a great one.

Stating that gamers are assholes is like saying cars are murderers because of those traffic collisions.

I think gamers can be assholes these days thanks to online play. It's anonymous and people can be with no real "penalty". When couch co-op or playing was a thing if you were an asshole people just didn't play with you.

i can't blame people for thinking that all gamers are like that... but then again.. they are judging the whole group based on a few

*something something* real world politics, immigration: Obligatory.

On topic, some gamers are seen as assholes, some are not. I think the older generation seems to see us more as toxic players than others. Same can be said with metal heads like myself or even Juggalos.

The real question... does this even matter? I still plan to play games and listen to metal even if it makes people think ill of me.

The only game I have ever gotten angry at for loosing was League of Legends. I am generally very chill in any game outside of it.

Gamers as a whole? I'd say not assholes.
Gamers with mics? Unless they're playing with friends, I usually find them to be assholes. Or extremely enthusiastic children.
This would obviously change based on what game you're playing. I remember Mod Nation Racers people had peaceful conversations between rounds and didn't complain about others often when they lost.

Our society harshly punishes people for making mistakes rather than encouraging people to improve from them, so most people deal with that by refusing to take responsibility for anything and instead deflecting blame onto someone else. Sometimes it is some other persons fault, but more often in a team game its the entire teams fault to some degree. Maybe you're a high level player who is playing with a lowbie friend. You do fine in lane, but because your ranks are so different, some lowbie on your team is forced to play a much high level player in order to even out the teams. I've seen high level players lose their shit because some lowbie lost their lane to a much higher level player. Well what did they expect would happen? I would say the bigger problem there is a terrible matchmaking system, but most people refuse to be mature and use their logic. They're trained to deflect blame at every opportunity so nobody can point the finger at them, or say they could have done better. It's also why you get feeders who start blaming their teammates because they're playing poorly.

Anonymity + A bunch of hyper aggressive dudes trying to prove their manliness through competition in videogames (lol wat) = bunches of assholes.

You would be surprised how much a lack of empathy or even just lack of basic human understanding will cause super toxicity.

For example, you're playing a multiplayer game. Now a mature person would realize that yeah...not everybody is the same skill level and varied skill levels happen. Additionally it may not be the main account holder playing online, maybe it is their cousin or friend. Yet none of that enters the consideration and the lack of empathy for anybody who possibly does bad starts off a horrible chain of toxicity. Suddenly all the problems in gaming or the current game are put on the people who are probably already feeling pretty annoyed doing badly in a game.

People are toxic to those who are doing bad and are probably already feeling pretty frustrated, they in tern feel like they need to get back at the people who are being horrible to them creating situations like feeding.

Its a lot of immaturity though for that retaliation and the initial lashing out at people. I think the main problem with gaming is that we are too focused on hyper-competitiveness and have started treating gaming as a job and not a hobby to have fun with. Its fine to be competitive but to start lashing out at others is just plain wrong. You can't win them all, and you shouldn't expect to. Especially in team games everybody has their off day.

Though I suppose the attitudes I described above made me mostly avoid hyper competitive games or games where I have to deal with verbal insults due to the way I play or how I may be playing that day. I'm getting too old to deal with people's shit.

If you want assholes, try ranked League of Legends. They want perfect plays or you get "reported" every time you do something wrong.
