When it comes to getting money through contests, lottery, or sweepstakes, are you the lucky one who wins? Or are you the person who doesn't win anything?

My Turn:

No. I never win any contest that involves getting a lot of money. So I either give up/accept the fact that I am just unlucky when it comes to getting money.

What about you?

I'm lucky until I start realising that I'm lucky.

I've won $1000 on two occasions, and I've won a couple $100 prizes every so often. I've definitely made a profit, but that's because I don't gamble with my money much to begin with.

After I win, I usually play more, even though my mind knows it's statistically most likely I will lose all my winnings if I keep playing.

I stay away from that stuff unless I have no risk, it's meh.

I can never understand why people think gambling is a legitimate investment.

I'm pretty decent at winning small amounts of money when playing poker with friends, but I really don't enter a lot of contests or sweepstakes. In Vegas, I was able to win around $3000 in a few hours playing blackjack, but managed to lose it all and then some by the time I went home (about a week later). That's the thing about gambling in a casino though; you have to know when to walk away because the house always wins eventually.

I would only gamble to have fun, not to specifically win money because the odds are stacked against you too much. It's extremely rare for someone to gamble and profit. By rare, I mean more people gamble and lose than gamble and win. The longer you gamble the more likely you are to lose.

No I'm that unlucky it's not even worth the effort of me even considering it, the only thing I've ever won ever was a pair of socks in some crappy school raffle when I was like 10

I've never won anything of note. I also don't enter many contests, so it makes sense. I am decent at poker, but I don't play for high stakes. The most I've won is $1.50 but I made it to the top 30 out of almost 5k players in an online poker game. I was pretty proud.

Nope. I've won $100 before, but that's about it.

I do not participate in competitions for money so I wouldn't know. I have participated in non-profit tournaments where I have made it to the finals against the actual players who won money at the WCG but I have never registered for competitions like the WCG('cuz I wouldn't leave my house to fly to Korea) that gives out prize money. I believe the total prize pool that year was $250,000 spread out between the players of each game.

Shoutout to my boys who made it to the WCG though, so proud of them.
