You know what is REALLY SCARY? China has been doing a whole lot more, and a whole lot worse, and there has been no U.S. response....

...because they haven't been hacking the election, DUH!

Edit: http://www.theverge.com/2015/2/16/8048243/nsa-hard-drive-firmware-virus-stuxnet

China has hacked the State Department, the Pentagon, the nuclear energy electrical grid infrastructure, defense contractors (the companies that make our weapons and munitions for the military, etc, etc, etc.) - for years! Not a peep from Obama. I'm certain that if Trump had lost, Obama would NOT be doing this.

Obama's actions are bullshit. I would give it more weight, if he had sanctioned China for their, very aggressive and damaging cyber attacks on U.S. interests over the last eight years...

but but but election!

but but but Putin!

Surely if there's something outside the immediate "issue FOV" then it doesn't exist, because the existence of those things are inconvenient to what people are supposed to affix their eyeballs on

That made absolutely ZERO sense. I read it several times, and I still couldn't make sense of what you were trying to say... What are you saying?

I think he means that since it is a current topic of media coverage is the reason the sanctions were made? But yeah, not the clearest way to communicate it.

Anything that doesn't go with the narrative (the supposed "hacked election") gets ignored because it detracts from that story

Lul, someone finds made-for-script-kiddies malware that was produced in Russia infecting a laptop... let's blow this out of proportion with click-bait titles and selectively omitting information! We can even stealth edit the story later to save face!

My point is that if Obama is gonna sanction and condemn Russia for hacking... Then he should have sanctioned and condemned China for hacking - WAY BEFORE RUSSIA DID. My point is, he didn't do anything until AFTER the election, where Trump had won. That's because he thought Hillary was gonna win. If Trump had lost, Obama wouldn't have done anything. He would have treated Russia's hacking the same way he treated China's hacking - by doing NOTHING.

Obama's actions are nothing more than sour grapes. I'm saying that if he had slammed China for all of their years of hacking U.S. computers (actually stealing military, and technological secrets - which they got caught, red-handed, doing - while HE WAS PRESIDENT), then I would give him more credit for slamming Russia.

Yes. he does these things when it helps him (in this case, furthering the narrative on Russian tampering) instead of "for the good of the country"

These malware hacks happen all the time. There's a group of people called "social engineers" who make an illegal living by planting malware to grab data from anywhere, because chances are it's worth something to somebody. Yahoo. Playstation network. Home Depot. Target. Universities. It's not important that the Vermont utility laptop had malware on it. Whoever was using the laptop probably clicked on a link they shouldn't have, or they found a USB stick laying around and decided to plug it in to see what's inside.

it's not important that the malware is Russian, because a lot of malware is Russian. There's fish in the sea! Well duh!

The report was just reversed.

Yep, they have now backtracked on that report.

http://www.theverge.com/2017/1/3/14151244/burlington-washington-post-not-connected-russian-hackers-evidence

The IP address in question had previously been associated with Grizzly Steppe — the operation connected to the DNC email hack last year — but experts and officials close to the investigation now say that the traffic may have been benign.

Traffic with the noted IP address has been found elsewhere in the United States, indicating that the Burlington discovery wasn't a sign of a targeted attack, and is not always linked with malicious activity.

Wait, so we're not going to war cause someone was downloading porn in the wrong place? Darn, that would have been the best legacy for Obama...
