I'm gonna sound like a weeb, but Kill la Kill and Madoka Magica, both of these I watched after having kept up with new anime for three years on crunchyroll

Both shows I dropped midway through the first episode (I now watch at least 2-3 full episodes before dropping shows lol)

KLK was simply that I couldn't stand the insane art style. Too much character stretching, excess destruction and camera angles, too much going on to handle. I had previously seen Gurren Lagann and loved it, KLK just seemed like it was a more action focused show with little plot. My roommate convinced me to watch the first few episodes, but it was literally the scene in the second half of the episode with Senketsu that hooked me. Binged the whole thing that night even though I worked the next day...worth it

Madoka Magica was a similar situation. A lot of people told me I should watch it because it was "dark" and "sad". My mistake was thinking they meant the atmosphere, and the world they go in to fight. It was my manager at work that laughed at me for not finishing the first episode. Sure enough I felt like an idiot when I went back and watched it a second time. I even went to go find the third movie, and basically cried myself to sleep that night.

and here's a list of shows that I know a lot of people probably drop because of excess fanservice, but are actually really good once you get past it:

-No Game No Life
-Sakura Trick
-Food Wars
-Fruit of Grisaia
-Pet Girl of Sakurasou
-Cross Ange

I'd have to say, All Out. I know nothing about rugby and it took a while getting used to the art style. I still don't know much about rugby but I like the story line.

Non Non Biyori - I remember being really bored watching it the first time round and left about halfway through the first episode. I just wasn't in the right mood for the show and never gave it a chance.

Until, I tried it again a few months later. By that time I had gotten into watching slice of life shows and after finishing "Is the Order a Rabbit?", tried it again and loved it! Was tempted to watch both seasons again, in fact.

Good Ol' Cowboy Bebop. Thought it was trash and overrated at first but then upon second try it became my favorite anime ever.

Chihayafuru. I ended up liking it so much that I decided to pick up the manga, and I've never bothered to read manga before in my life.

Now I'm also changing all of my usernames and avatars to Chihayafuru characters.

Ace of Diamond.

I only made it through half the first episode before dropping it because I couldn't stand the main character Sawamura. He is just like any other shounen protagonist, only three times as dumb, loud and annoying.

Half a year later I tried watching it again, and now it's one of my favorite shows and manga.

Sawamura is the same, but let's say I've learned to love him.

Kill la Kill, tried the first 6 episodes, felt really uncomfortable with the transformation scenes, had a friend force me to watch it, I got past them.

Sawamura is hard to stomach. I almost dropped it a few times. Probably one of the most annoying MCs in a sports anime. But once the games get going it's easy to binge.

Gave up watching Hirugashi after the first three episodes since nothing is explained. It wasn't until a few years later I decided to return to it, and I'm so glad that I did. Till this day, Hirugashi is my all time favorite anime, partly because it completely annihilated my initial expectations.

Assassination Classroom, i dropped it at episode 3.
It was after i watched the live action movie that i continued with the anime and loved it.

I think i was kind of missing the point of the series too, since it's not about whether the assassination attempts work, but how the class all grow and learn something from the experience.

Amazing series that i'm glad i gave another go!

Well, within the last couple hours I just finished Flip Flappers. I dropped it half way through the first episode a while ago. Picked it up again last night and more or less binged it up until now. And boy ohh boy did I absolutely LOVE it . I even made it my profile pic because of how much I loved it. Maybe not the best anime of the year, but certainly my favorite.

There were not many anime that made that happen, (two or three), but the one that really changed for me was Shinsekai Yori.

I really didn't like the beginning and thought, that it was another random shounen anime with a basic story, but after picking it up again and watching a few episodes it proved to be anything but that.

Long story short: It became one of favourites.

I'm curious what part of the beginning of Shinsekai Yori felt at all like "a random shounen anime with a basic story". Rather, it was pretty friggin weird.

Haruhi for me, though I wish I kept it dropped. Gah that was horrible.

I'll agree that the series was very average at best, but I hope you watched the movie too because it was borderline incredible. Almost enough to make trudging through the series worth it.

For me it is Blue Exorcist and Re:Zero. I don't exactly remember why I dropped the shows but I think I just lost interest in them or I wanted to watch another show. I'm glad that I decided to pick the shows back up because they became two of my favorite shows and I absolutely loved them.

This list make me want to pick up some other shows I dropped. Earlier this year i tried to start Reborn and Mob Psycho. I got halfway through Mob Psycho before dropping it for no apparent reason and I dropped Reborn halfway through the first episode because I didn't like it for some reason.
