Yeah, I'm sure a lot of what you said is true, but I feel like the publishers also don't make it easy on retailers when they make limited editions that are truly limited, resulting in apparent inventory confusion and ineffective communication between vendor and publisher. I figure that lack of communication is partly why the Tales CE and maybe even the FFXV CE was such a fiasco with both brick and mortar stores and Amazon, though I will say my FFXV Deluxe Edition arrived just fine on launch day.

I agree that publishers don't make it easy on retailers.Usually what ends up happening is that the publishers get their Amazon page sorted for the limited edition/special releases ... and then they inform Amazon how many will be in stock. The issue is - publishers like Bandai-Namco and Square Enix tend to overstate how many they will have allocated for that particular location (especially Amazon) so the "pre-order" goes a bit crazy. Brick and mortar stores have it even harder since they're usually told by their vendor how many each store is going to get (locally) and then, if it's a corporate company (like Gamestop), the corporation has to tally the numbers to produce an "average amount of inventory per store" to please customers (which goes back and forth).

After Emil from DotNW, I'm not gonna complain about a Tales' main character again. Sorey was okay for me, a bit boring, but he was the least of Zestiria's problem.

Just made it to Loegres, and if that skit was right, it's actually pre-Pendrago which is pretty cool. The dynamic of the cast is so much better, and I like how they mesh so far. Eizen seems like a pretty badass character too, which sucks given his fate in Zestiria.

It's role reversal from Zestiria, and I'm fine with that, lol.

Well............. yeah, but I think any Tales alumni will try to ignore that DotNW ever happened (especially how popular the first Symphonia was...). Not saying you're wrong, it's just one of those moments where I'll feign ignorance simply because Emil was that bad.

Currently level 41 (all characters are the same level right now). I've been power leveling ... I'm really not that much further than you are in regard to the storyline. I've done the three quests that you're asked to undertake and started the "real goal" ... </refraining from spoilers>

I picked up Tales of Berseria yesterday. This is my first Tales game and I have to say that so far I'm enjoying it. Looking forward to following along with Velvet's adventures.

Wow, you are so far ahead of me in level it's crazy lol I'm around level 21 or so and passed that point a long time ago. Still not really having any trouble with the combat though, even against the Code Red monsters. I'm seriously considering trying to bump up the difficulty but I'm not sure if it's just going to make the fights boring by turning enemies into bloated meat shields.

Yeah...I'm level 58 now. It's pretty easy to take down anything right now (in terms of fighting). I'm still trying to improve more of my artes and level them up as much as I can.

Played for 10 hours straight and feel like I haven't gotten too far in the story (just unlocked expeditions)

Anyways this is my first tales game, as the anime has actually really sold me on it and made me want to explore this even further. They did well.

Sometimes you get sidetracked by fighting a lot in the Tales series (personally, I do). I think the first ten hours was mostly getting to a place with frequent monsters and me power-leveling. I'm enjoying it so far, just that my power-leveling technique has made this game a bit easier than it should be (even on the hardest difficulty).

Pretty solid game. Especially given how the previous ports went (I'm on PC). Gotta say though, the difficulty is far too easy even on the harder settings. If you play as Velvet that is.

Checking with a few midpoint-ish (maybe? I have no idea how far in I really am) observations:

- The characters are almost all great. Bienfu is stupidly annoying and should be taken out back and shot, but Tales games almost always have this sort of character so I sort of knew what I was getting into going in
- The story is actually really good and interesting, and the role the different characters play in it is actually important. It's not just an epic tale that happens to have characters pasted over top
- The world is a little too small and, even at that, there's still a lot of backtracking. "Gates" that are closed are too inconveniently opened later on for what often feels like arbitrary reasons
- There are too many Private Action scenes, or at least they aren't spread out well enough. The skits themselves are usually funny and/or interesting, and the voice work (I'm playing with Japanese audio) is excellent, but there are a lot of times where you are given two or three or even four in a row and you're just basically sitting there listening to an audio play with limited visuals for far longer than you should be
- The equipment system offers some nice depth, as does the combat. You can't get super hands on with building out a character but you do have some options if you want to use them
- Combat is very fun, and very fast, but is oddly inconsistent in terms of difficulty. The vast majority of the time it's on the easy or even very easy side. Then, out of nowhere, you'll just die because you got whomped in one hit or you'll get stunlocked to death. It's not likely your whole party will die but you will likely lose characters this way and it's always just a "Huh?" moment.
- There don't seem to be any choices in dialogue, story or character relationships. Not every game needs them but I know some previous Tales games (as does the similar Star Ocean series) have so it's a little disappointing to not see them here

Overall, I'm still loving the game overall. There are some cracks starting to show as I spend more time with it but none have really lessened my enjoyment so far.

Okay love the game, really digging the dark anti hero vibe they got going. But that aside why the fuck is the English voice acting getting worse with each Tales game? I mean they started out with English voice acting that was on par with the Japanese Voice acting...Now it seems like they took random homeless junkies off the streets and asked them to do the English Voice acting.

As result for the first time in my entire time with the tales series I turned on the Japanese voice acting.

Also as a side note fuck the equipment section. Tales games have always been bad in terms of having to learn the important stuff from your gear but Berseria is one of the worse. I am picking up new gear every damn thirty seconds and as a result the am having to grind forever to learn the basic stuff then equipping the slightly newer stuff, rinse and repeat for hours. Then I once I think I am done for awhile I get a literal mountain of new gear and back into the grind to learn all the new stuff. This shit is really holding up story progression ya know.

For fuck sake FF 11 was less grindfest then Berseria was.

That being said I am still enjoying the game and the plot..what little I get to see of it in between grinding new skills and etc off the new gear.

Question

Are the Katz (Pink treasure chests) necessary at all besides fashion? Like I've opened some and received nothing.

Other than that I'm probably spending way too much time gathering enemies so that I get dangerous encounters everytime for more EXP. (Just got Magilou in the party)

Honestly though Velvet is a super hack for the combat, like you can constantly spam her Break Soul? Gauge? R2 for PS4 players and practically never die cause of the health regen.

I'm having a fun time though, don't even know how far I am in the actual story so hoping I still have much more to go through

You say fashion like it's not important . I mean all their default outfits sucked balls , Velvet especially. What with her slutty version of Dante from the Devil May Cry series. Hell most of their outfit choices sucked, worse dressed bunch of Tales characters ever in my opinion.

I'm not saying it's not important, I actually quite like getting more options.

I just find it odd that I open some and get nothing, or rather if it has maybe some sort of significance in the longer run. But if it's just for fashion then I'm totally okay with that.
