That's pulled so deep out of your ass I'm surprised you can't taste your fingers.

I mean it makes sense if you assume he's measuring the amount of problems caused by fundamentalists on a global scale. His numbers are definitely way off in terms of just numbers but there aren't exactly any major wars against radical christians or hindus in recent history, despite the extreme number of those assholes.

At least as far as I recall anyway.

You are forgetting the Christian fundamentalists. Anti-abortion, Anti-gay, Anti-other-religions etc. Christians have their fair share of assholes too... Fuck, for the most part every religion breeds hatred against one or another. Look at how a lot of Christians dislike Jews and Mormons. How the Sunni hate the Shiite. How ISIS hates all other religions. The list can go on for thousands of pages.

Religions breed hatred. Is this anything new?

Assimilate or go home. My ancestors were dirt poor immigrants, so I can understanding wanting a better life. At the same time if you are a guest of another country follow their laws and don't expect them to bend their way of life to accommodate a 500 A.D. way of thinking of woman's role in society, plain and simple. Especially disappointing to see this in France of all countries, since it was one of the first countries (if not the first) to have a true women's rights movement.

Yeah, the rest of the world tends to get lost in whatever is the "loudest" focus in western media and 14+ years of "Someone or something from that foreign place you don't understand could kill you at any moment" makes for better ratings.

Africa especially though. I think parts of Africa have been so horrible for so long that we became numb to it and lost interest in the popular consciousness. If that makes any sense.

People are dicks. Religions aren't sentient. It's time to tear off the Boogieman mask worn by the thief and place blame on the person, not the Halloween costume. People use all kinds of excuses and recourses to commit heinous acts. Religion isn't anything special for simply being religious; it's just a very effective tool when the right people gain authority.

It's as I said in my post; yes, there are an overwhelming amount of horrible people like that, but they are not currently affecting the world as negatively as the more dangerous muslim groups are to my knowledge.

As a follower of the great Roméo Dallaire, I can definitely agree with you there.

...even though I apparently need to get better at fighting against that indifference than I may have thought.

The problem France and especially Belgium have is the economic segregation of immigrants. Assimilation is actually a two way street. People have to want to assimilate and the host people have to want to let them assimilate. France has had a poor record in this regard and Belgium has been especially piss poor in this regard. There's a reason every terrorist attack in western Europe in recent years traces back to Belgium at one step or another.

You shove enough poor, angry people together and keep them that way and you're going to have problems.

Contrast this to Canada and the US for example, who are both very successful countries when it comes to assimilation. Perhaps because they started as immigrant countries and aren't carrying a thousand years of historical baggage.

I think there's actually a psychological term for it.

Ah yes, here it is:

Religion or no religion there will be conflict and war regardless.
There have been societies where different religious groups have lived side by side without many issues and others with full of conflict and minority suppression. The problem is religious extremism as you properly identified and it can come in many flavors (i.e. ISIS (Islam), (Catholic Church) Inquisition, (Christianity in general) witch trials, Jim Jones (cult), etc.).

Seems a bit of generalization, but yes some members of those above groups have those traits.

That being said without religion something else will continue to divide people: political affiliation, social class, heritage, etc.

Your "Lebanese Christian Lady" is a well known Islamaphobe and borderline conspiracy theorist.

Also, I'm going to go right ahead and assume you don't know much about Lebanon and what you do know you got entirely from this video. -.-

If that happened to me I would be anti-Islamic as well. So I suppose all of the Jews that survived the holocaust were Germanphobes too.

I see your going with discrediting instead of actually discussing what I posted, like usual. Well I'm not taking that rotten bait.

Yes I'm familiar with the concept. It was introdiced to me through the books of the above mentioned Lieutenant-general. I highly suggest you give them a shot if you haven't already.

People are easy to manipulate. Religion can manipulate people. I had a very dear friend of mine. We knew eachother for 3 years. He became a Christian after his gf converted him. He changed completely. He was no longer the person I knew. We stopped talking.

People are assholes, yes. Religion can make people assholes too. After all, religion can alter the way people think. Once again, look at the gays. Why are they hated so? They don't harm others, they wont influence you either. You should just be neutral to it. Religion says it is wrong though. After 200 generations of being told this by your parents, their parents parents... You begin to think it is true.

RELIGION CAN AND WILL CHANGE THE WAY PEOPLE THINK AND LIVE. I have seen it enough.

That certainty contributes to the violence aspect, but on the flip side some aspects of Islam are in serious need of a reformation. Stoning woman, honor killings, gender segregation are not compatible with Western values.

I agree that Canada and the US have been quite successful when it comes to assimilation, but I can't help but think our security checks, an immigration system that mainly grants visas to those who have relatives already in the states (and probably already economically and socially assimilated) plays its role as well as a strict skills based system utilized by our northern neighbors. Moreover, a constant/manageable flow of new arrivals helps makes this assimilation much more successful.

Basically, I agree that what you stated certainty makes things worse, but at the same time unchecked immigration and the number adherents to a radical interpretation of Islam who have flooded Europe in a short amount of time are the key reasons for Europe's current problems. This is something we do not have here in the Western Hemisphere other than with a handful of lone wolves mainly radicalized over the internet.

That is kind of the point of religion and atheism. However societies have developed quite differently under one religion vs another religion so you get to see a sort of natural evolution of one compared to another.

The problem is that some religions take stuff too far and it just becomes violence:

Quran (7:80-84) - "...For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.... And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone)" - An account that is borrowed from the Biblical story of Sodom. Muslim scholars through the centuries have interpreted the "rain of stones" on the town as meaning that homosexuals should be stoned, since no other reason is given for the people's destruction.

Quran (4:16) - "If two men among you are guilty of lewdness, punish them both. If they repent and amend, Leave them alone"
