I would believe that religious people in general aren't as smart as atheists. But I would not be so disrespectful as to say they have mental illnesses, regardless of how much I despise religion.

...and this belief is backed by...?

No but religion is a pretty stupid concept to believe in

...which was why Jesus spoke out against it (the idea of buying God's favor with religious practice... which no one could because grace is given not earned), consequently some very religious people at the time called pharisees got really angry and had him tried and then crucified.

He said you couldn't earn Heaven by works. He didn't say not to do works.

Of course there are. There are people that believe that vaccines can give you a GENETIC disease and people that believe the earth is still flat. People will believe some of the craziest things before challenging their own beliefs.

Some people believe the earth is flat still although we where lied to in school thinking christopher columbus thought the earth was flat even though he tried to sail to India it came to be around the middle ages the idea of a flat earth came to be but was not very popular. people believed the earth was round since Greek philosopher Aristotle time in 300-400BC

some people will believe in anything on what the internet tells them because a fake scientist with no claims told them that vaccines cause disease

of course not,
that's like saying that autism and atheism are correlated because there are high amounts of autistic atheists lmfao

edit : i'm not trying to make this seem offensive, but i've seen people posting statistics between autism and atheism and trying to correlate these two together, as such with religion and mental illness

There you all go doing that thing you always do. Ya'know the really annoying one where overthink things and try to find deeper meaning where there is none.

Yes there are all kinds of people who think all kinds of things.

Although I believe religion to be something of a beacon of hope for those who need it.

Nah, it's "god verbally answering back" that you have to worry about.

No, but I do believe religious people have some type of mental dependency and I view that as a sign of weakness. Just my two cents.

Yes and more. We develop as we choose. Stuff we say is us perceiving ourselves entirely complete as some version of ourselves in our words. We are adding/multiplying ourselves as more selves also now known as cells. Denial of this is all suffering. Multiple personalities occur the further one denies themselves into believing we gotta focus on someone else. Creativity and cellular health relate to all awareness as we beyond gravitate ourselves together. Consciousness is energy is love is light is undoing collective simplifications of yourself until you break your past language with more awareness and we've started from governments in language as humans. We always are experiencing this, all perceivable separations of disunity among us does not have to be true. Each word is yourself as absolute we perceive as we tells ourselves.

Yes.

It's not really a mental illness though, being a serial killer is a mental illness.

But some people think that they are the voice of God. Which makes me a little irritated.

I have a few colorful words for those people, but I'm a good boy

Hephaestus forged the lightning bolts and gave them to Zeus. He's a godly craftsman, so it makes sense that he could invent some cool weapons like that.

Hmm religious bashing, well thought arguments for theists and atheists alike, more religious bashing. A question posed by the Op that could be construed as insulting simply by it's very nature and a subtle shadowing that the OP does in fact think the positive of her question.

...I am beginning to think atheists may be more hardcore and insulting then the theists they insist on acting superior to.

To answer the OP's question no I do not think faith is a sign of mental illness. Believing in something larger then yourself and a code of morality has never been a bad thing. Faith can and has moved mountains. Sure men and women of faith have done terrible things but so have men and women of no faith. Evil is not the sole Providence of those who believe in a Heaven above us and a Hell below us. And anyone who thinks so needs their head checked and their parents should be jailed for failing to raise a properly educated child.

So, tell me are the people out there who believe that religion is link to mental illnesses? Pretty much believing in a deity is a sign that you have a mental illness. Do some people believe that to be true? What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with them? What are your views on this?

Well I know some people who do believe that some mental illnesses is being possessed by the devil. If someone has a nervous breakdown then they'd pray for them including a lot of shouting for the devil to come out of them. I'd think it would be very scary for the person supposedly being helped.

Others discussing the whole prayer thing. Usually if you're talking to yourself other may think you're crazy but if you say you're praying they'll make allowances for that. I know growing up going to church much of the congregation laughed and chatted about this.

I think theism, atheism, and agnosticism can be and tend to be somewhat of a pathology on the psyche because of the assumptions of their cosmology and how imaginary a lot of it is. ( cause in my opinion they're all kind of the same , but that doesn't mean it's good or bad/right or wrong or any of this stupid bullshit, it just depends on what you want, how you go about it, if you really like it and it works for you, etc...)
