I've watched a lot of anime this year and have been entertained by most of it.

I admit a lot of this years new anime has passed me by. I didn't like Re-zero and I never got into joker game. I love mob psycho 100 so voted that as the best anime of the year.

As for heroes there can be only one hero and his return this year was amazing. I am a long suffering fan of Berserk. Having watched the original series probably over 10 years ago having bought the series on a whim from ebay in a box set.

This year saw the re-emergence of one of the world of anime's greatest anti-heroes.
The animation of the new series certainly wont win any awards but I think Guts the 100 man slayer should for being the most violent and grumpy man in Japanese animation

So vote with your fingers and vote other in this years greatest hero category..... Vote GUTS!

I voted Subaru. No one else had to overcome the level of psychological and physical torture he did. And yet he still emerged a true hero, saving countless people. There's simply no comparison. Subaru is Best.

I'm sorry but Guts has--even quantifiably--overcome more psychological and physical torture than Subaru. Which leads me to believe that you just haven't seen Berserk. Which is fine but why bother responding to this thread, then?

And OP, I think Guts is a great manga hero but Berserk 2016 was pretty weakly produced and I frankly don't want to reward that half-assed effort.

I should have phrased that better. I didn't mean no one in any anime ever. I meant no one during this year of anime which we are voting on.

Guts went through one of the most horrible and painful trials we saw in anime this year: The 2016 Berserk anime.

<slow clap>

I didn't even watch it truth be told. I saw the previews and decided I didn't want it to ruin Berserk for me. >.>

I admit that the whole stop frame style ( or whatever it was) put off a lot of people and quite rightly so.

But the story line and the feel of the anime definitely took me back to how I felt in the original series. Although I must say there were truly gross out moments that's i found hard to stomach. The violence was out of this world but I remember the manga being absurdly violent in later episodes too.

As I said Berserk was never going to win the best anime category but I do think the return of the one the greatest anti-heroes that I personally have ever seen deserves some recognition.

I will do a little digging and see what the director of the show and the anime house tried to do with the show. What budget constraints they had and so forth.
