The sheer variety of the answers in this topic is interesting. Testament to how full each season has become for us.

My pick is also Alderamin On the Sky, but Thunderbolt Fantasy should get a special mention just on general principle (because, seriously, I haven't seen any anime-style puppetry since X-Bomber, and that was back in the early '80s!).

Xbomber was the bomb I remember that show-Tbolt Fantasy was cool and different made me think about Dark Crystal and the main man Jim Henson

Bubuki Buranki - not a perfect show by any means but deserves more people watching it. It was fun, enjoyable, had great characters at times and wasn't nearly as bad as many of the more popular shows this season. Animation was very nice but the CGI didn't bother me. You're mileage may vary. Decent story line too and a nice pay off for those of us who stuck with it.

Flip Flappers - how is this show not massive? Really the best and most surprising show of this season. I had more fun watching Flip Flappers than I've had with any anime in a very long time and my god those colors. Truly unique and a gem worth watching.

Drifters - holy h$ll this one rocks. Berserk gets so much traffic but there's a much better, equally violent show out there for you all to watch. Drifters starts on a high note, crests through the middle on a high note and ends in a high note. From the rocking OP to the ED this show throws away all sense of brakes and just goes full throttle. Comedy was a bit hit and miss, especially in the beginning but they found a good groove after the first episode.

My single biggest disappoiment and most overrated show of the season was

Yuri On Ice - and what's with CR putting it in the "top animation" category for the 2016 anime awards? The animation goes from stellar at times to downright godawful and shoddy at others. I would think to win this award an anime should be consistent at least. Flip Flappers and Izetta both had better animation. Same with the OP and ED song categories. Yuri Yuri Yuri all over the d#mn board. Op was good but Ed was meh, I just wrote in the ED for Flip Flappers which is just all kinds of awesome. Too much freaking Yuri. He's like the Minmei of the 21st Century but instead of only having two "new hit songs" he's only got two freaking skating routines, at least until the end. I mean one can only watch the exact same routine for so many episodes but don't worry people because he gets 2, yep, that's right, two whole skating routines so you only have to watch the same one for 5 or 6 episodes only so there is that

Oh and here's some of that awesome animation from Yuri On Ice I was talking about. Consistent? Best animation of the year? Give me a break. Look at those proportions. They're all over the place.

Here's some of that "best" animation:

Oh heck, just go here to see all the images that show just how shoddy their animation gets at times:
https://twitter.com/badyoicaps/media

And what's with everyone except Yuri getting absolutely NO detail to their faces? I can draw faces like that. Sorry, it's not horrible but seeing it at the top of the list for best animation makes me die a little on the inside.

Fune Wo Amu aka The Great passage was the most underrated anime of 2016. The synopsis of it sounds boring but it ended up being something really beautiful. The Music was on point.

Orange. Orange is a beautiful anime, and has a lot of meaning to it, but sadly many dislike it.

I personally enjoyed Aokana: Four Rhytms Across the Blue and i have to say, it was my favorite for winter 2016. One i especially liked about it is it's ED. It's so calming and so on.

This is probably mostly due to it being on Amazon instead of CR or Funi. And it requires subscribing to their new anime service. I'd really like to watch it, but I don't like having to subscribe to another service. (And I don't like going to the dark side either when I have so much available to watch right here.) Same with Onihei.

Lupin III Part 4 has hardly any ratings and I've never heard it talked about outside its main thread.

- Space Patrol Luluco. Lots of Trigger fans overlooked this hilarious masterpiece that is incredible for a 5 minute show. Had no chill and was incredible. Especially watch it if you're watching LWA right now.
- Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko: Everything Flows. A super sweet show that brought me to tears with how heartwarming it was - short and absolutely worth the watch.
- ClassicaLoid. I'm currently watching this bizarre show and my goodness it is an adventure. Super weird and funny but it requires you to be able to suspend your belief for a ridiculous show.

I really enjoyed Flying Witch: http://www.crunchyroll.com/flying-witch, NEW GAME!: http://www.crunchyroll.com/new-game, and FLIP FLAPPERS: http://www.crunchyroll.com/flip-flappers this year. I enjoyed many others, but these are the ones I feel didn't get much love.

Flying Witch is just a nice relaxing anime to watch.
NEW GAME! felt almost like SHIROBAKO but for the gaming industry (hope to see a season 2 for both of them).
FLIP FLAPPERS I went into it thinking it would be some slice of life but it took me for a different ride.

Flying Witch is a fun slice of life that is easy on the tropes but not too slow like Ghibli or something. Good to meet another fan. How far did you make it into the series

Definitely "The Disastrous Life of Saiki K." Funimation and Daisuki have it. Best comedy of the year. (and it did win best comedy in Reddit's anime awards) And the dub is actually incredibly good.

I also enjoyed "Mayoiga" (aka "The Lost Village"). To you artsy folk: watch it.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being cowboy beebop and 1 being Angel Sanctuary, how would you rate it?
