I really enjoyed Flying Witch: http://www.crunchyroll.com/flying-witch, NEW GAME!: http://www.crunchyroll.com/new-game, and FLIP FLAPPERS: http://www.crunchyroll.com/flip-flappers this year. I enjoyed many others, but these are the ones I feel didn't get much love.

Flying Witch is just a nice relaxing anime to watch.
NEW GAME! felt almost like SHIROBAKO but for the gaming industry (hope to see a season 2 for both of them).
FLIP FLAPPERS I went into it thinking it would be some slice of life but it took me for a different ride.

Flying Witch is a fun slice of life that is easy on the tropes but not too slow like Ghibli or something. Good to meet another fan. How far did you make it into the series

I completed it.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being cowboy beebop and 1 being Angel Sanctuary, how would you rate it?

It was a good slice of life, but didn't have much in terms of story so I would say around 7.

The Great Passage: Got stuck in the Great Amazon Anime Hostage Situation of 2016. Pretty much any kind of excitement died and the released it with absolutely no mention or fanfare. But if you told me an anime about making a dictionary would be interesting and excellent I'd laugh at you and tell you to get out. I kept hearing great things so I gave it a go and it turned out to be damn good. It's not A+ material but the shows does an excellent job with it's characters and wonderful directing. I do have some issues with some underdeveloped plot points but the central characters are so strong I could forgive that. I highly recommend it.

Classicaloid: This one is still airing but it started last year so I'm going to count it here. Probably my biggest surprise of the year. I never expected this show to be any good, like at all. Basically, it's a show were the animeify the hell outta famous composers and play remixed classical music that sounds nothing like the original song half of the time. Hijinks ensue. However, having the director of Gintama and Osomatsu-san results in some spot on comedy and surprisingly emotional when it wants to. give it a go and you may be as surprised as I was.

Flip Flappers - how is this show not massive? Really the best and most surprising show of this season. I had more fun watching Flip Flappers than I've had with any anime in a very long time and my god those colors. Truly unique and a gem worth watching.

.

Probably because of the ending it was sooo disappointing IMO. For all the fun and craziness that made the early episodes such a joy to watch, the story just unravels at the end and ruined Papika for me.
