I literally just found this out like 5 minutes ago....I always thought is was a seinen. Was I the only one who didn't know this? I never would have expected it to be shonen.

Who's calling this a shonen? I certainly wouldn't...

It's rather arbitrary, in this case the manga adaptation ran in a shounen magazine aimed at older teens and young adults.

Psycho-Pass is an anime original, so it's neither shounen nor seinen.

The manga is a different matter. But since the anime is not a manga adaptation, it doesn't really matter.

certainly not. however this could be a misundertanding.
according to wiki:
Seinen: In Japanese, the word 'seinen' literally means "youth"
Shonen: The kanji characters (少年) literally mean "boy" (or "youth")

Not that it really matters, its still the same show whether its shounen or seinen. But people still manage to get butthurt over it.

Shounen vs Seinen doesn't that only refer to the type/demographic target of manga magazine it is published in? It's a pretty dark anime that at times seems like Judge Dredd with Dexter level serial killers, hardly would recommend it to young children. Don't care too much about those classifications if you like the anime you shouldn't either. Heck, I've watched Shoujos and Joseis I thought were decent.

i'm not sure that its a misunderstanding since the manga was published in a shonen magazine

well... are we talking over anime version?
.
by the way I declared that because there is not a great distinction between each other sinde the meaning it's "youth" however the Wiki also says: "but the term "seinen manga" is also used to describe the audience of comics like Weekly Manga Times and Weekly Manga Goraku which are aimed at men into their 50s".

Also your opinion is a prejudice. if any manga appears in a "shonen magazine", not necessarily means that is a "shonen" aimed to boys since these magazines are read by adults too since the content of some mangas are mature.
Example: Mirai Nikki, Koe no katachi, jojos (weekly)....

In conclusion the shonen is a mere demographic group.

It lacks the main elements of what a shounen, such as the mainstream shounen's like naruto, one piece, bleach. Usually there is a"chosen one" and we follow their story. But psycho-pass's focus on a character is blurred as it tends to switch from kogami and akane (1st season) and then from akane to Tsunemori to sakuya and so on. Secondly, we were to consider it a shounen then the obvious "chosen one" for us would be kogami however he was discarded from the second season no longer making him lead protagonist. This is just all my opinion I may be wrong because psycho-pass is one of the more open anime's.
