Would she be on the list for Best Hero or Best Villian 2017?

Yeah fish people... the first shots of evil Aoi Yuuki were weird as hell but she looks okay in action and in general when you compare her to what Saori got stuck with...

But what about the Treaty of Worms?

That can only be called an awful romanisation from Crunchyroll here. This is probably referring to something similar to the geneva convention (or the hague convention from 1909) in our world. But that spelling, ouch.

They're all german. And you have yet to say anything about why it's Nazism here, as it's definitely not.

I kept thinking, should I continue this just for Saori VA? Might be a bit difficult though in this case

This show is clearly all about Tanya, and if you didn't know it beforehand you'd know it after just watching a few minutes. Any time Tanya isn't the main visual focus of the show, it kind of looks like ass. I mean, who actually thought that her subordinate looked good? I suppose it's supposed to be in direct opposition to Tanya's design, but that visual design is purely hideous. The animation in general is also pretty janky.

That said, it's not at all a terrible concept and I'm interested in seeing where it goes.. I just wish it wasn't so hard to look at.

Oh, and Shirayuki is another show this season? Weird...

It's funny when you realize Saori Hayami was the one fighting back against an aggressive Fake Germany in Izetta and here she is trying to defend Fake Germany from aggressors.

Thinking about it from a storytelling perspective it might be 3 or 4 episodes before they show us the truth about Tanya.

Next episode will probably focus on Glasses guy telling us about his encounters with her. Episode after that might focus on her first mission and the development of the Type-95. In fact they might even hold back the truth until the Mid-Season episode, that way they really focus on building up who she is now, before dealing with who she was

Hey, something set during WWI...sort of.
Seeing trench warfare with magic was interesting. I'm curious what set off the fighting in this universe. The triple entente exists, but they didn't indicate if an assassination set off the fighting. Also odd that this was set in that world's 1920s instead of 1910s.

Definitely like this better than Izetta so far. The magic in Izetta was just out of place and didn't mesh with the world well. It didn't make for very satisfying martial fantasy. The magic here is much better incorporated into the military strategy of the world and is mostly better balanced. Magicians seem to have taken the place of planes and war balloons. Though Tanya has WWII firepower instead of WWI.
(I realize Izetta's magic was supposed to be out of the norm, but it didn't work for me)

Curious if mustard gas and such will show up. Can the magicians block chemical weapons?

There's a big distinction I think alot of people posting in this thread are missing:
Izzetta is a witch fighting against not-Germany in not-WWII. Hence the bombers, tanks, etc.
Tanya is a witch fighting for not-Germany in not-WWI. Hence the trench warfare, reliance on artillery and primitive bombersmages, and not-Germany immediately surrounded on all sides.

This isn't a heroic or villainous celebration of global warfare. This is the red baron in loli form tearing apart the skies of Europe. The subordinate being a moe-blob in contrast to Tanya's disturbingly childlike appearance and cold demeanor is pretty damn effective. They're supposed to stand out in the midst of the more realistically drawn military brass.

Damned good start, though the slasher smile at the end was almost too much cheese.
