That's a good episode. Konatsu's performance is excellent.

I watched the episode about the series on Imagination; short but have good insights about the production of the series. I was disappointed when they didn't feature it when season 1 was aired; I thought I would never see it on the program.

This is probably my favorite episode from both seasons.

Is this jugem rakugo were gintama got the name for Kyubei's monkey in that one episode?

I wondered the same thing and was assuming it is.

There's also this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8XMzMd1Np4

Exact same name, so I'm guessing the rakugo is the source they both stem from.

Episode 5

The student/teacher relationship continues to build as those two just keep on knocking those rakugo performances out of the park. It's always great to listen to those two give it their all with the rakugo. With cassette players now available that Yotaro can listen to recordings to fine-tune his performance. And then comes the performance and while Yakumo still has it in him, his age is catching up to him as he collapsed at the end of the performance all while visions of Miyokichi come in smoke. The development is great as Yotaro sure has come a long way and finishing that tattoo is symbolization of that, but now Yakumo, he doesn't have much left in the tank after that.

That was a really strong episode this week.

We got imo one of the most memorable rakugo performances yet performed by Yakumo. He still has it but that ending has my worried. Still, I think he still has the passion to perform and I'm proud that he did so this episode.

I figured something was going to happen when I saw Sukeroku's red eyes in the OP but I wasn't expecting this. I guessed that Yakumo would die near the end of the season. If he's dying now or next week than this seems is a bit earlier than I thought. The preview doesn't give me much hope. It's amazing he's even still doing Rakugo at his age so hopefully he still has a bit of strength left next time.

Another episode that focuses in large part on the history created last season, and another of the strongest episodes. This is what I come to this show for.

NOOOOOOOOOO!! That ending, man.

I knew it'd come to this, but surely, it can't be THIS soon.

Further, I do hope that Yotaro finds his own Rakugo style, because listening to others' performances is one thing, but at the end of the day, he'll need to create that trademark that people can relate to as his alone. In these past episodes, whenever he performs, I find it bold and fun (as he himself also puts it), but I feel it lacking on that 1 factor........ Uniqueness.

Kikuhiko's end can't come this soon! Bon hasn't gotten any sort of closure yet. Miyokichi and Sukeroku showing up/voiced was ghastly. Seems like they will be the shinigami of Kikuhiko. The only way for him to continue living would be to take it easy and no longer perform Rakugo (that probably equates to death for someone like Kikuhiko). The rakugo performances mirrored the episode. First half upbeat and second half grave. First performance up was Yotaro's cheerful story and then followed by Kikuhiko's grey tale. Still gathering my thoughts, so I'll try to comment in more detail.

On a related note, here's an interview between Ishida Akira (Yakumo/Kikuhiko) and Hayashibara Megumi (Miyokichi). They discuss the relationships in the first season of Rakugo. Its pretty interesting. I particularly like the difficulties that the two have in fully understanding their character.

When Sukeroku called him "Bon" the last season just flooded back to me. Good stuff.

Episode 4

I wish we could see more performances from Konatsu but I don't think it'll happen .

Episode 5
I knew that he's going to die this season (I guess we all knew) which doesn't mean that I'm ready for it to happen .
Amazing episode, in my opinion the best so far (from season 2). The last part with Miyokichi and Sukeroku was excellent.

Episode 6

As they say, the show must go on and after Yakumo is hauled off on a stretcher, Yotaro gives his performance, and what a great performance it was in light of what's on his mind. But afterwards, some pretty serious stuff as Yakumo is in pretty bad shape and Yotaro is doing his best filling in for him as the closing act. Hopefully Yakumo pulls through, but he's certainly knocking on death's door as he's getting really old.

I think when Yotaro was performing, he was also thinking of Yakumo. Might of been one of his toughest performances yet knowing the events behind the scenes.
