Assassin's Creed Liberation

A mess to play. Doesn't use the keys you're used to from previus games, but uses some strange ones, that make it pretty much unplayable or at least a lot less enjoyable.
On top of that it had a really weird story and the gameplay itself was nothing like any Assassin's Creed game, like whats the thing with changing clothes and stuff.

So in short: The worst PC port I've ever played, boring and it's really something that shouldn't carry that name.

Mighty No.9 is sort of like "No Man's Sky" - there was a lot of hype and it fell short. I liked it, just that it could have been significantly better.

I've seemed to have avoided most of 2016's notable gaming disasters.

Can I say Pokemon Go? Lol

Dead Rising 4 and Quantum break were massively disappointing, but I don't think they're the worse last year had to offer.

A lot of people absolutely hated "No Man's Sky". I found it to be one of the better games of the year, just because it had everything I was hoping for - in regards to what they were pitching. Then again, I've heard a million game pitches and knew that most of the features they were sprouting wouldn't be completed or in the released version of the game. I went in expecting that and was fine.

"Mighty no.9" (to clarify my other post) was meant to be a spiritual successor to Mega Man. While it had most of the fundamental aspects of Mega Man (boss battles, obtain specific abilities from said bosses) - there were some aspects that were completely off-base and horrible. Not to mention that some of the ports (Wii-U and PC especially) were horrible. PS4 port wasn't too much better; just that it had less clipping/frame drops (but not by far). Thankfully, the game is pretty easy and isn't as "sensitive" as Mega Man in terms of having to have near-perfect timing to avoid death and such.

As for "Pokemon Go" .. as someone who played Ingress for 3 years by the time PokeGo came out, I knew that Niantic wasn't going to live up to the hype that people were trying to feed it. Ingress had been around for three years and they were still haphazardly trying to balance things. I don't dislike PokeGo, just feel like there's more that could be done with it (and I'm still playing it from time to time). On that note...

Worst Games of 2016 (by Ninjitsuko)

  • 10. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (XB1/PS4 (with Pro features)/PC)- Perhaps it was just that it was the same thing once again that made it so boring. The storyline is pretty predictable and the multiplayer is pretty much what you'd expect from CoD. Outside of that, it was pretty lackluster to me.
  • 9. ReCore (XB1) - Another one of Inafune's recent missteps, in my opinion. It had some movement and hype going for it during E3 last year (2015) but the implementation, storyline, and controls were just.......horrendous. I found nothing pleasant about trying to even play.
  • 8. Sid Meier's Civilization VI - PC - As with all Civilization games, I know the "base" version is going to be a letdown. I wasn't surprised when a friend of mine gave it to me for the holidays on Steam (since it was on my wishlist). It has most, if not all, of the features of the Civilization franchise that you've known, just that it needs tweaks, updates, and expansions like CivV went through. It's higher than IW because they were trying to cite that this "core" version was going to be perfect out of the box.
  • 7. Mafia III - (PS4, XB1, PC) - While graphically stunning, this didn't even get close to living up to its previous games. Mafia 2 was known as an "underrated gem" - while Mafia 3 only makes it more difficult to hope that the next one (Mafia IV, if it ever comes out) will be any decent.
  • 6. Mirror's Edge: Catalyst (PS4, XB1, PC) - This was just bad. They attempted to keep as many of the original elements as possible but it ended up being a bit of a migraine. Essentially, if you absolutely loved the first one - you'll probably "like" this one. If you were on the fence about the first one, the second Mirror's Edge is just going to drive you away from the franchise altogether.
  • 5. Quantum Break (XB1) - This was a movie that sold itself as a game. It was designed to be integrated with the XB1's "TV integration" system that has long been canceled/defunct. That's only the beginning of the issues with this game. Glitches, horrible acting, and an overreach to discombobulate the storyline to confuse the player are higher up on the list, to name a few.
  • 4. Street Fighter V (PS4/PC) - I love SFV, don't get me wrong. I just think that Capcom pushed this out with more focus on the fighting game community than being a welcoming game for those who aren't heavy into fighting games. Gone was arcade mode and proper "vs CPU" support and instead we had a weak multiplayer scene that barely functioned. Great game now, but shouldn't have taken nearly a year to get it to a decent state.
  • 3. Umbrella Corps (PC) - Once again, Capcom screwed the pooch. They released this game under the radar. People found it, played it, and refunded it (in most cases). Others just wished it didn't take them over 2 hours to realize how bad the game was so they could refund it.
  • 2. Paper Mario: Color Splash (Wii-U) - Oh good god. I don't know where to start here. Nintendo definitely just decided to throw this into an oven far too long and what came out was a monstrosity that should have been chucked into the bin. It was bland, poor controls, and doesn't even get close to touching onto some of the better Paper Mario games.
  • 1. Star Fox Zero (Wii-U) - And the honor goes to Nintendo for trying to make a game that utilizes every unique feature that they had ever "done right" (motion controls, second display, and Star Fox) in the absolute worst possible ways. Even when playing two player this game is just intolerable. It's the same as practically any other Star Fox game (a little too much like it) until you reach the whole "how do I control the ship and shoot enemies" bit.

I would prob say doom 2016

I'm probably in the minority but after the campaign I was done with it, no reason to play the campaign again and the multiplayer is so tacked on that I would be better if I were to play another games multiplayer then attempt to play this

of all the games you listed or on the lists that i saw/read are not entirely worst games.

some are disappointing

No man sky was overhyped-- when i saw the trailer at E3.. i was not interested in it at all.. since i don't get the point of the game is.. the same for minecraft to be honest.. i play games for the action and story.. simple building, farming , etc.. those things are not for me

it's 2017-- most of the games they listed were patched.. so they are more playable now..

AC unity
homefront revolution
no man sky
Street Fighter V

i don't know about Mighty number 9..

call of duty infinite warfare wasn't bad.. it's just the gamers hating the same thing every year.. i don't buy COD each year.. i rent them and will buy when they are $10 or under..

another game that i didn't see on the list of disappointing/worst games of 2016

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness (Star Ocean 5)

the game is now hovering around $20 for the past 3-4 weeks..

Ah, I forgot about Star Ocean 5. It's a completely forgettable game, so I guess it's understandable, lol. I thought it was better than Star Ocean: The Last Hope but that's definitely not saying very much.

star ocean needs a reboot..

Star ocean 3 was a good game imo.. it was my first action rpg.. but having it being a final game in the series was kind of odd..

Star ocean 4 and 5 are prequels? ..

play star ocean games for the battle system-- not much for the story

it's like playing Grandia III (PS2) from way back..

JRPGs need to move away from bedtime story type of storyline..

If browser games can count, the Strike Witches game. Idk why, but I kept playing it. It's hard to figure out what to do, it's repetitive. lags quite often, it crashed a lot on me, and you only get 4 characters, the other 4 are for a certain game mode.

Killing floor 2, it wasn't a bad game but the lack of dedicated servers really played with my heart.

Well, that's why I stated it was written by me. That list is pretty much the games I think were the worst of last year's library. Star Fox Zero was an absolute atrocity to the entire franchise (personally). They overreached and fell pretty hard. I haven't yet met one person who was satisfied with that game, even hardcore fanboys. As for "No Man's Sky" - it was a game that was overhyped by both the company (Hello Games) and the players. Eventually, it reached a megaton level of hype and neither side could substantiate what features would actually be in the game. For me, it's more so a laid back game to play while you're listening to music (or its own soundtrack) and wander/explore.

I've all but given up on the Assassin's Creed franchise. The last three games have been a disappointment or poorly coded masterpieces (good story, horrible implementation). Street Fighter V was a good game; just that it required a lot of patches to get to a state that doesn't disenfranchise "newbies". It was released as "here you go, FGC, a new game just for you guys that has kept this franchise going!"

As for Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, it was a good game. I think it was overlooked because of other jRPGs and games that came out around the same time. I picked up the limited edition (as I normally do if there's a steel book version of a game) on Day One. Went through it and platinumed it after about 3 weeks (longer than FFXV). It was "forgettable" for those who weren't main fans of the series; it's better than some but doesn't topple Star Ocean 3 at all.
