That is a good idea to try and freak the cashier out, but the only thing is I'm pretty sure that ammonium nitrate, N2H4O3, fertilizer is a controlled substance and not easily available to get in stores. At least in large quantities with that exact chemical content. I worked at my local Home Depot store for a little over four years as my last job and I was a cashier and was outside at the Garden Registers quite often. People would ask us about fertilizers like that and we'd have to explain to them that we didn't carry them because of the health, safety and other risks associated with it. And customers would say that they couldn't find it anywhere else either.

Admittedly, a fertilizer with ammonium nitrate is rare to find in most gardening stores. They're much easier to find in either "Mom and Pop" stores or 'industrial agriculture' stores. Purchasing even a 2.5lb bag requires you to show your government-issued identification if you do find it. Nowadays, due to regulations, it's usually harder to find in industrial agriculture stores as most companies have no desire to deal with having to report purchases to the government and so forth.

But hey, it was still a good suggestion to freak out a cashier!

Yeah, Home Depot used to carry the stronger stuff when I had first started, but they stopped carrying it for those reasons. There are some smaller gardening and farming stores and places around where I live that still carry it, but not in large quantities and most of it isn't as strong as what full ammonium nitrate is from my understanding, probably because they don't want to have to deal with the same hassle.

And yeah, it was!

hmm... how about sneaking in tons of items the store doesn't have and mixing all of them with a bunch of legit items into your shopping carts in one shopping trip. Complain as much as you can whenever they run into errors
