Having watched both movies, i have high expetactions on this. Then again, Netflix is streaming it and i have good and bad things to say about that, but let's that for some other time.

If netflix has it that means we wont see it until the season ends and Netflix will of course brand the show as well as a "Netflix original". sigh....

That's what Wikipedia says, so it's most likely going to be released all at once. It does share mixed opinions as some like to watch all in marathon and some, one episode per week.

Considering how sparse this particular season is, id rather have it week to week then released at once at the end. I mean i understand the desire to watch a show in a marathon fashion; typically shows are better that way but at the same time, it sort of saps the excitement out of the incoming season when one of the must watch shows gets basically "delayed" for another 3-4 months.

First episode was good. Animation was on-point.

Favorite premier of the season so far, can't wait for more.

All of this, But so far giving Gintama Best premier, I will see how Yowa fairs with this 3, but hoping they stick as my top 3 for the season.

A great start to the series, the animation was great, especially the Charett magic show scene. Little Akko is adorable and we even see little Diana there to. So they did what I hope they would do, and start at the beginning at the first day of school.

Akko is great I love her, Lotte is adorable, and Sucy what can I say. She is hilarious but at the same time sometimes she is "the most evilest person in the world" LOL.

Interesting we just get to the entrance ceremony and not the first day of school. And our three witches are room mates. Next episode should be when we meet Diana and answer I question I have wondered, did Akko know each other since childhood or just happen to be at the show together and not really meet till now.

I wonder are they going to redo the OVA and the Parade movie like a lot of animes are doing lately. I think they have to redo the Parade, you can get away not remaking the OVA, but you remake Parade since that is when Akko and the others meet Amanda, Jasminka, and Constanze. We will see, but so far great start.

Am I the only one who is not feeling this one at all? It loses points pretty much right off the bat for breaking continuity with the films and I know anime franchises don't always have the same canon between tv shows and films but it's not something you need to go out of your way to do like with this show. Death Parade did that just fine and not only was it a masterpiece, it originated from the same exposition as this.

But rendering the beloved movie moot is one thing, doing that while also completely re-hashing it is another. Seriously, is nobody else bringing up how this is obviously just a watered-down retelling of the first movie? We open on Akko watching Shiny Chariot for the first time, then we get some comedy about how much she sucks at magic, how little regard Sucy has for anything ither than her potions and how much of a nerd the third girl is intersperced with some light world-building and other witch girls being mean to Akko. They all go into a dark closed off area, fall into a trap and have to fight a big fire breathing monster that flies and kill it with Shiny Chariot's wand. What the hell? Why break off from the original story if you're just going to do the original story again but shittier?

In fact why was this episode even made at all? I give it a hard time purely for re-treading the same ground as the film while also trying to distance itself from it, which it deserves, but it would sure as hell help if they did anything to add to it. After watching episode 1 I just sat there scratching my head wondering what this episode gave me that the film didn't. It's probably no surprise that I am still wondering that. I honestly don't think we got a single thing out of this episode that we didn't have in the original short film. Unless you count fewer characters and inferior animation, which I do not.

So at this point you would probably think that I think that this is still an enjoyable sit that's roughly on the same scale of quality as the original short film, marred mostly just by its pointlessness. You would be wrong. While I do still want to give this credit for being the same LWA we know and love at heart, I have one major obstacle blocking my path. The way they characterize Sucy in this episode has to be some of the worst ruining of a cool character since Captain Marvel in Civil War II. And just like the good captain in that event, Sucy has basically become evil. I mean, ok, in the first two films Sucy did trick her friends into being her guinea pigs, but fuck, she never tried to murder them. Yeah, that's what she does in this episode, multiple times. This isn't just her making a mistake that risks her friends' lives, she flat out puts them in situations against their will which she is certain will kill them. What the fuck, Trigger?

I could go on about more problems with this show like how nonsensical the new forest setting is, but by now you're probably sick of reading me rant, so I'll cut it off here. There are still elements that made LWA great in this show and the animation, while it can't compete with the first two shorts, is still awesome. But it just hurts to have these with such an all around poorly conceived re-hash of a story. Hopefully things improve drastically with episode 2.

Good episode. Nice little refresh of where things have already gone. Really good music too. Not AOTY caliber, but still really good.

Has anyone picked this up for simulcast, or am I going to have to hunt for it in the ether?
