To me it seemed like the group Akko usually is with her 2 roommates but it expanded to her rival/friend Amanda from broom race and her roommates and I kinda think it makes it more interesting with all the personalities blending together they make good team. I especially like the witch who invents modern technology to do her work I would want her on my team for sure

Yeah and I hope by the end of the series, she actually talks. That is going to be a big moment when she actually says something beyond just generic noses.

I know people bring up Harry Potter, and I am not familiar with that, but the whole 3 people teams reminds me of Naruto, except it is all girls, and not teams of 2 boys and 1 girl which can lead of sexual frustration like what happened to Obito.

Another series it reminds me of is Soul Eater Not. It has that same type of feel. Amanda does remind me of Kim.

I really like this show's take on dragons. It was brilliant to take the classic myth of the dragons amassing and guarding giant treasures and modernize it by making the dragon an invester who demands enormous interest on loans and has like 20 different computer screens to keep track of his stocks. Unfortunately some of the other stuff in this episode really does not work. The realization of just how dependent the witches are on this artifact that allows them to use magic only in a small vicinity kind of makes the magic in the show feel neutered especially since it appears to be the only artifact of its kind in existence.

It also didn't help that the animation in this episode didn't deliver that well either. I know Trigger is known for barely animating at all unless they're really going all out but this is probably the first time I've thought the limited animation actively hurt the episode. There's only one action sequence in it and it has a few pretty cool cuts but most of it feels kind of underwhelming. Much like Gate I'm blown away by how dull it makes the idea of fighting dragons with modern guns and missiles feel.

It's a real shame after how exceptional episodes 3 and 4 were but this one failed to impress. It's definitely good, like I said the new take on dragons is awesome and I like the message that no matter how much we need and use technology there will always be a place for the magic and mystical. Sadly the visuals drag this episode down. It's by no means bad, I would still recommend it, but it doesn't live up to the par previously set by this franchise.

I'm surprised by how many obvious western pop cultures references there are in addition to all of the eastern ones as well. I'm not going to go back and pause every little frame but some of the obvious ones being pawn stars, twilight, and evangelion. Nightfall seems like it goes thru some crazy scenarios i bet those all reference something obvious or totally obscure as well. This is just my bias but when annabel was talking bout being flamed on the internet and hearing bout nightfall's "great" narrative i immediately thought "oh, they also like to talk shit on fairy tail and that author"

Nightfall is a reference to Twilight. The title font, plot points and the fact that most people outside of its extremely devoted fanbase consider it to be trashy shit are all extremely similar. I'm personally not sure how I feel about that reference. On one hand taking the piss out of a bad series that got unavoidably popular is always fun, but something feels kinda weird about centering an episode around taking shots at a trend that died off several years ago and really only happened in a country outside the one this show was created in. Twilight currently occupies a weird place in cultural consciousness where it's too old to be current and satirizable but not old enough to be looked back on with a "what the hell where the people at that time smoking?" attitude (unlike say, Vanilla Ice) I think if the Nightfall thing was just a quick gag I'd applaud it and that its presence as the focal point of episode 4 is what's making me feel a bit more iffy on it.

Still a cool episode though.

This week's episode was definitely the best so far, for me at least. It felt very magical, got a great brief encouraging message at the end. It just felt really good.

Episode 6

We might have a plot after all. For some reason when I found out Diana and Andrew knew each other, I thought perhaps they might be betrothed. Though giving this series is suppose to be for people of all ages there is no fan service in this series, perhaps a betrothed plot might be too mature for young kids.

We might have a plot, looks like Andrew's dad and people like him might be plotting something against Luna Nova.

My feelings on Andrew, he is not as big of a creep as I thought he would be, but still either way no mater which girl you pair him with, he gets in the way of my ship, leave Akko and Diana alone, and let them be together. I know that won't happen in this type of show but still.

And on thing that really was a let down on this episode, it looked like it was going to be a Diana episode, we learned a little about her past, why wouldn't it be, but it turned into another Akko episode for the billionth time. I guess episode 4 is a rare episode, it always going to be the Akko show, while other characters get the shaft. At least I thought it would be be a Akko / Diana episode, in which Akko learns a little bit about her. That better happen someday.

But the good stuff with Chariot that makes up for it, little Chariot is so cute, and maybe Akko will learn a lesson and take things more seriously from know on. To achieve her goals, you just can't desire it, you have to work for it, this is not all fun and games. please don't let Akko just go back to being her slacker self, let's have some character growth.

Though if I am right about Andrew's dad plotting something, maybe a betrothed plot will still happen, you know to save the school. As long as they not some crazy age difference like in Geass or Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphan, it should be okay.

The thing is Nightfall, while a big part of the episode, wasn't the central focus. It was just the framing for the Lotte's character development and the lesson about creators not letting negativity hinder them. It worked for the episode because Twilight is something that, while not a very recent reference, is still recent enough to where many people, especially people who are into things like Harry Potter which LWA draws heavily from, have experienced or knowledge of Twilight's reputation. The point of the episode wasn't "look at this Twilight parody". Also, I didn't see the episode as mocking Twilight, especially because the episode seemed to emphasize how much it meant to Lotte and Annabel. Whether you like Twlight or not, this episode was about how even silly or stupid things can be meaningful to people. It helped Lotte cope with bullies.

Storywise, you're not missing much, as the OVAs have their own piece of story. However, animation wise, I can't recommend enough. Studio Trigger's animation is just my drug.

As for the slow pace, bear in mind that this series is 2 arcs long - 25 episodes - which means that we have enough time for things to develop. Just look at this episode for example, Akko had her biggest development since the beginning of the series. At the end of the day it is up to you whether you want to watch it or not though, since you're supposed to enjoy the things you watch, that's one of the points of anime.

Episode 7

I am glad the lesson Akko learned in the last episode is sticking. She is actually studying and actually trying, good for you.

I don't know which was cuter, fish Akko or puppy dog eyes Akko.

I don't know which was more sweeter, Akko finally physically attacking Hannah and Barbara, or Ursula yelling at that teacher, both was a long time coming, this is the episode the bullies finally get what they deserved and get put in their place.

I thought for a moment Akko committed murder, goldfish are so easy to kill, but the professor survived, and that poacher learned a lesson he will never forget.

I love this weeks ending with the fish, we need fan art of the fish forms.

Like last week's episode, there is some big picture stuff that we need to talk about, the whole Diana predicts Akko will leave Luna Nova, I don't think that is a dead issue, that is foreshadowing of something. She didn't say Akko will flunk out in the next day or two, a very vague prediction which had no time table, that could be something in first count finale. That could be cliffhanger for the second count.

How did she learn fish language? Just because she was a fish for a bit? Seems like cheating.

Akko looked cool as a merman at least she is studying for exams and doing her best its a good lesson she puts the needs of others in trouble in in front of her own needs. Ursula is a good Sensei I think little by little Akko is improving hoping she can fly on a broom with her own magic some day
