Episode 8

A Sucy episode, to be honest I didn't think it could be done without breaking the mystic that is Sucy. But they were able to pull it off.

Anyway I loved it, very trippy episode, it had a little bit of Alice In Wonderland, the Wizard of Oz, and oldest of old old school cartoons.

So angelic side wants to Akko painlessly, of course she does. I have to admit the movie part when they showed the first episode, that was touching.

But the episode had so many laughs and how sadestic Sucy personalities can be, I don't which Sucy was my favorite, judge Sucy, old lady Sucy, rocker Sucy, so many Sucys, I love them all.

And in the end, it was dream, or was it? I don't think we will ever know.

I think this episode was a dark cliffhanger maybe. We don't know what the effects of Akko drinking all those potions are and it seems like Lotte has no recollection of what happen.

Would be an unexpected development considering how lighthearted the show has been so far.

This is honestly probably the single best episode of the entire series thus far. Every aspect of this episode was everything I expected from a Little Witch Academia TV series and so much more. The art, the character designs, the backgrounds, the animation, the homages, the action, the humour, the characterization, even the Yuri baiting was done well. If I had to say anything negative about episode 8 it would be that having Sucy almost never being present as herself in the long awaited episode dedicated to her character comes off as being a bit of a bait and switch but because the episode is set around a metaphorical and literal exploration of her personality like she was what she deserves. In fact, you could even argue that this method gives her even more depth and even more development.

By the way a lot of you seem to dig the classic cartoon tribute in this episode which was primarily done by Takafumi Hori, who's a very talented animator and very prolific. Here's some more of their work, I highly recommend it.

Episode 9

Okay this episode was awesome. It was hilarious but yet gave me the feels. So what happened the beginning, were they making a time capsule or something? Don't really get it.

Anyone getting on Akko's case for causing trouble again, this time is mostly Sucy's fault. It was her shortcut that lead to the cemetery. And was Akko and Sucy together that raised the dead.

So this skeleton guy raises form the dead, I thought he was a pirate at first, though we find out later he was just some normal dude. What is with that attire?

Some hilarious shenanigans ensue, like the dead guy going through garbage and our girls pretend he is their crazy grandpa, the fake street show, just hilarious. And Sucy just sitting there all calm at the bar, she might cause a lot of trouble, but she is best girl. Nice to see the coffee shop again, and the guy that works there.

But we got the feels at the end, headmaster Miranda and her dad reunite, I have to admit, that was touching. This shows knows how to tug at the emotion, it can make me laugh and cry all within a short time.

The reveal that the headmaster is half human half witch, that has to give Akko some hope, between this and finding out about Shinning Chariot's childhood, becoming a headmaster at a witch school is a great accomplishment, and for a half breed to do that, that is quite an accomplishment, granted Akko is less than that, she is a no breed, but still hope, though I don't think her dream to headmaster, still she has no limit to what she can accomplish.

I only understood it as they exactly explained it. Those were charmes they could think about and cast a spell/something to return to where the charms were kept. Thats why it had to be something special to each one. They were just kept in the box to keep them all in one place in the school.

I'm gonna call this the smoke epusode because there were tons of smoke effects and they were animated fantastically. They seriously make me want to learn animation now just so I can do lots of smoke effects like these. Speaking of animation, it looks like we're on a 2 week streak with the classic animation tributes. I mean, I couldn't have been the only one who saw how Akko and Lotte replicated the Scooby and Shaggy running animation, right? Oh and the story was really good too. It was funny but ended up being surprisingly touching. I had a few doubts about this show at first, but it seems like recently it's found its comfort zone and it is a great place to be in.

It wasn't a time capsule, they were gathering items that were close to the students because then they can use magic to instantly bring the students back to Luna Nova. As for the pirate gear, it looked more like old military stuff to me. Probably too old if we think about the timeline too much, but whatever.

Totally agree about similar animation style to Hanna- Babera(Scooby-doo) running in place also the classic grave yard scene and hand coming out of grave and top it off with a pirate only thing missing was the kids taking off a mask at the end to reveal the guilty party
Excellent episode and Akko continues to grow she used magic off the school grounds wasn't great outcome but she still had some juice

Not sure how people are getting pirate at all. Didnt even think that. Looks a lot more like red and blue civil war time uniform or the old british 'Red Coat' style. Maybe a unique mix. Definitely military, not pirate.

What do you think they're going to homage next though? First we got a tribute to the Felix the Cat style of animation, which was the style that defined the 20s and 30s, this week we got a tribute to the Hanna-Barbera style, which was what defined cartoons in the 60s and 70s so I think that logically the next step would be to tribute the John K. style of animation which was dominant in the 90s and 00s.
