Satanichia is my favorite so far. Her personality is just too damn fun to watch even from the first episode.

I love Raphi and Satanicha... the comedy between them is hilarious.

Also did that video game just magically appear on Gabriel's computer? lol

Damn, is this show really popular enough to get 3 pages of discussion with only a single episode? I mean I thought it was a decent episode, for sure, but nothing spectacular.

Fun premise from a popular studio with typically good animation and it usually has strong cgdct shows and characters.

Now you know how I feel when sports shows or shows like OPM or KLK get popular.

Page views probably a better guide then posts (as can just be a troll), but yes point taken.

Nevertheless, this show is serious noob-bait. Sexy, clumsy whatever blond chick + gamer + rebellious + "something Jesus related" = USA Hit

Whether Japanese people actually watch this, of course...

Fair enough. I don't intend to generalise or insult people who like this show more than me, but I agree that it's definitely likely that people who are newer to anime will watch it because it has many superficial elements that people at large associate with anime. I also firmly believe that consistently making shows like that is how studios like A1 pictures stay in business despite producing shit shows, not to say that Gabriel Dropout is on the same level as those.

Hey, I like SAO :)

But u do have to understand the "meta" of that show and get past "the Asuna/new waifu every episode fanservice" though; it is sorta a study on the "meaning of (artificial) life". The "Akihiko Kayaba" character, although may be overlooked by many as "just random bad guy", observes something that has quite the philosophical implications. Quite advanced, and also useful to anyone that wants real AI IRL (MIKU!).....

And me like me Fairy Tail of course. Again, have to get show's intended Japo-indirect meaning message though.

No matter, your point is duly noted; in a more generalize context thereof.

Animation Studio A-1 pictures is wholly owned by Sony who isn't going out of business any time soon. If their Aniplex division loses money then I'm sure it and A-1 will be shut down but go out of business? No. And Aniplex is not exactly hurting so neither it or A-1 pictures will be shut down anytime soon.

Of course Japanese people are watching the show, at least a few of them. It was made in Japan for Japanese people. It wasn't made for us in the west at all. It was not designed to be a US hit at all. It is based upon a manga which runs in Japan. Made for Japanese people to read in Japanese.

That said, it is completely generic and I wasn't that impressed which is too bad as I was looking forward to the show. It feels like a mishmash of shows I've seen recently. Himouto Umaru-chan for all the hikikomori gamer stuff, even looks like her and... surprise, surprise it's by the same staff as Umaru-chan! There are a whole bunch of devils and angels going down to earth shows that have been on lately. The character designs are cute but it seems completely forgettable to me.

Pretty painful to watch overall. Not sure I can watch any more of this one which is, again, too bad as it looked like it might be funny and cute, not cringeworthy.

Key point, "few". Rosario + Vampire didn't bail out bankrupt Gonzo on Japan sales.

I see this title being a "meh" in Japan, but maybe a little bit big hit in USA. We shall see, in performance numbers therefore.

It's so early I shouldn't even be looking at the pre-sales figures right now but I did and you know what's the third highest show for anime disc pre-sales on Amazon Japan so far this season? Gabriel Dropout. Third after Konosuba2 and Little Witch Academia. So there might be more than a few people in Japan watching it. Long way to go in the sales cycle and the show could still be a total bomb but those early sales mean at least some of the manga readers like what they see as those early pre-sales are usually by people who already know the franchise. I wouldn't count it out in Japan yet. I don't understand the appeal myself but I'm not Japanese so I can't speak for them.

Eh, assuming amazon.co.jp is accurate reflection of Japan, of course.

But perhaps you are ultimately correct. Wouldn't suprise me anymore; as I was there once again in Summer, dem young Japs been quick to /abandonship "Japanese Culture" in favor of "Americanizing".

We shall see, indeed....
